My DH took the children to a hockey game tonight by himself. The only changing tables are in the family restroom. He had to stand in line with a baby behind several women who were using this restroom indvidually while he is standing there holding a baby who needs to be changed. Then yet another woman tries to cut in front of him and feigns ignorance that he was in line. Yeah - right. There was a women's restroom not more than 30 feet away and it was quite visible. This arena always has clean restrooms - I have been numerous times and have never encountered a dirty restroom.
This is not the first time we've encountered this issue. It happened at the Capitol building in DC - we went to go into one and the door was locked and some man sniped that it was occupied. Looked over to see some woman whose backside was so wide if barely fit through the door take the other one. We waited to get in the other one and an older man came out and the odor was so powerful that we decided to change Joshua's diaper on a bench in the lobby.
Do other people encounter these abuses of the family restroom?
Re: Family Restroom Rudeness
Yep, I have seen it a few times. Drives me crazy. I can see if nature REALLY calls and no other stalls are open in the main bathroom, but for someone make a person with a child wait in line behind them for it is ridiculous. Public stink bombs are so lowbrow. Give a courtesy flush or three, why sit there letting it fill the room? Gross.
I skeeve all things restroom - ESPECIALLY public ones!! I can't say I've seen any rudeness per se, as I only really go to restaurants and malls.
What I can say that is rude in my eyes are places (like restaurants) that don't offer a baby changing station! I've had to change my kid on a chair by the back door, or in the car, or with one person holding him up while the other changes his diaper. Or there was the one time someone told me to lay him between the 2 bathroom sinks (space wasn't big enough to fit a 1 day old let alone my 75%-height-5 month old).
Your DH should have made a snide remark...I totally would have. Rude.
