Breast feeding questin

When breasts feeding and you save some breast milk in the fridge, what kind of storage container do you use? I was wondering because obviously you have to warm it up and so would the plastic liners melt when doing so?

  • Eek.

I store mine in plastic bottles in the fridge and the plastic bags in the freezer. From the fridge, I don't warm them up; from the freezer, I put them in warm water for 15 minutes.

    DO NOT MICROWAVE BOTTLES!!!

  • I gave DD everything either cold or room temp... this way I was not waking up to warm it up... she got used to it cold or room temp...

You can buy bottles that hook up to your pump and pump it into the bottle.

  • I found the easiest way to do it was to pump then poor the milk into ice cube trays. I then put some saran wrap over them, wait for them to freeze pop them out and store in small ziploc bags. Put the date on the bags, then when needed, pull out as many cubes (1oz each) put in a bottle and put the bottle in warm water till they melt and are room temp.

  • I used Lansinoh bags for storage.  They warm up quickly and easily in a glass of hot tap water.

  • You don't warm it to that hot of a temperature.  You can save it in either the milk storage bags or bottles then to warm it you put the bag or bottle in a bowl of warm, not hot, water.  You can also purchase a bottle warmer for your specific bottle brand.  Never microwave breast milk (or any bottle really).

If you heat bm too hot especially in the microwave it kills all the good things that are in bm so undoing all the hard work you have done.

  • at first i bought these medela freeze and store packs, which where like 2 oz bottles with lids to freeze them. I like them because i could pump right into them and they were reusable. BUT, they took literally forever to thaw out. So I found it was a complete waste of money. The breast milk storage bags are the way to go. If you freeze them laying flat, they don't take up alot of room in your freezer and they thaw out really quickly. Just be careful if you freeze them laying flat make sure you don't bump them against other things in your freezer. It tears holes in the edging and you have leaky bags. :(
