Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Separation Anxiety already?

I usually take a 20 minute break in the evening to eat, & take a shower. H watches DD during that time. Well, when I leave the room to shower DD will melt down. I am talking full on freak out. H will do everything "right" to attempt to calm her but she will have none of it until I am done & snuggle her again. Its gratifying to be needed for sure but H feels awful.

DD is teething so I am wondering if that makes a difference. H does all the things I do when DD freaks & it makes him sad (awe) that she loses it when I leave the room.  Does anyone elses' LO do this?

I have assured H that he is a wonderful daddy (which he is & he adores DD. She smiles at him all the time too). That sometimes baby just wants mama.

You're so right! We went through something similar from about 2 months-4 months. DD didn't want anyone but me, didn't matter who it was or what they were doing. My mom thought it was a little early for her to be so attached, but...what can you do? She's better now, though...for the time being!

  • my son goes through this especially at my sister's. My h and I work opposite days and shifts so one of us is home with him, when I home with him for 3 days he doesnt want me out of his sight and vice versa when h is home with him. when we are at my sister's I can't leave the room or he will break down till I come back.

  • DD started this around 2.5-3 months, it made DH crazy.  It gradually went away, and now I'm practically invisible when DH comes home. Ha!  She thinks he's just SO entertaining. ;-)

With time, hopefully LO will get past this phase!

  • My LO and yours were born on the same day! I just noticed today when we were at my MIL's that she freaked out when I left to make her bottle and then to use the bathroom. She's been watching me when we are at home and needs to have her eyes on me at all times. I thought it was a little early to have separation anxiety already.

  • My DD started having the same issue a few weeks ago. Especially if she is already a little fussy, she just loses it with anyone but me! I agree that it's nice to feel needed, but sometimes I need someone else to be able to take her. Based on some of the PPs, I'm hoping this is just a phase.

  • This was never an issue with DH, but with anyone else it was a problem up to recently.  She was 3.5 months, I had to go back to work a couple of hours in the late afternoon and had a teenager come over to watch her that had plenty of infant experience.  Well, I was home the first couple of times and she would flip at the sight of the sitter.  It was nuts.  At other people's houses, it's like she "knows" that we are there with her so it's not as bad now.  I just made every effort to take her out and interact with other babies and mommies.  My gf down the street has twin boys and when we are over there her and her husband and even their parents can hold and play with DD and she will laugh and smile.  We make a point to go there once a week for a play date.  We go to the mall a lot and go to story time at the library and Barnes and Noble.  I am also trying out a free class at Gymboree although that is a little pricey.  It's getting much better than it was.  Thank god bc I go back to work as a school teacher in April.
