3rd Trimester

Question about size of baby!

Anyone have similar experiences with the following?

At my 20 week AS my LO was measuring 2 weeks ahead. I didnt think much of it, since babies can fluctuate in growth. However, at 29 weeks at our elective 3D ultrasound at our OB he was still measuring 2 weeks ahead and estimated to weigh 3 lb 12 oz. Which I know the weight is not always accurate. Now today the ob tells me my uterus also measures two weeks ahead. Is this normal? Or is it possible my due date was off? My baby shower is being held at 35 weeks, which makes me a little nervous if I am really going to be 37 weeks. Shower is 4 hours from home.

Re: Question about size of baby!

  • At 35 weeks my ultrasound measured my DD was 6 lb 6 oz.  She was born at 39 weeks 6 days and was 7 lbs 9 oz.  The ultrasound measurements can be off 1-2 pounds.  My Dr. told me that baby size does not have an effect on when he or she will come.  Good luck with your shower and third tri.

  • Since day 1 i've been measuring bigger, I asked my mid wife what it meant. If I was going to deliver sooner and she said it had nothing to do with size. She just said my baby is growing fast and may be big.
  • I was also measuring ahead 2 weeks and still have been , I'm 37 weeks now not a lot going on other than some fake contractions here and there, I was the same way with my last pregnancy and it didn't make a difference , this time I kinda thought the due date was off from when they did the 1st ultrasound because what I had figured up from my last period I would have been due Jan 29th but the ultrasound was showing Feb 8th ...I'm still kinda wondering and just waiting for something to happen any time now

Our guy was measuring at an estimated 4 lbs 1 oz at 28w5d... which made me have this face Indifferent and even though the Dr said their measurements can be off by 15% either way, I feel like it might be off more than that. I hear ALL the time about people who have had inaccurate weight estimates.

  • Last week at 35 weeks I was measuring 38 weeks. This was the same through my whole first pregnancy with DD, and the ultrasound for weight/size estimated she would be AT LEAST 9.5lbs. She was born at 39wks,4 days by induction (for health reasons), and weighed in at 8.7lbs. So they were a bit off with the weight (thank god!). My doc said the measurement of your uterus can also be a bit off depending on how baby is sitting. I wouldnt put too much thought into it, unless your doc has told you they think the dates are off they probably arent by too much.

  • Thanks! Our doctor mentioned moving our date forward a week, a couple weeks ago, but never officially did. We weren't charting or anything, so I couldn't tell you if it was off or not :P Hopefully, he will keep on cooking in there until he is ready!
  • When we had our DS I was measuring 6 weeks larger then my time.  I had him at 39 weeks 6 days but was measured at my last appointment 6 days before at 45 weeks.  They did an ultrasound just to see if I was having a larger baby but it turned out I was so full of water.

Good Luck I would't worry about it too much, as long as your baby is healthy!
