I've been reading some posts lately about people not liking the responses that they get on here regarding their baby name options. While I get that some responses may have been more harsh than some people were wanting to hear, I just had to speak my piece.
A little while ago I posted some girl name options that I/We were considering. Annabella was at that time probably our top girl name. After putting it out there for public scrutiny, there were some responses that confirmed my fear of the name maybe being a bit much or overly wordy etc. Annabella was part of a list of 5 or 6 names and I think only ONE person that responded liked it. While I still like the name, this board did help me think more rationally about how this name would be perceived. Nevertheless, we didn't chose Annabella and I couldn't be happier with the name we picked.
I didn't get any overly harsh feedback, but then again I don't believe I had any names that were horrific and deserved harsh feedback. Some names deserve a bit harsher feedback, in my opinion. Not that I would be rude in a response, but some people have TERRIBLE name options and they MUST know that putting that name out there they will get some brutal honesty. So a big, fat, KUDOS to this board for doing the purpose that I needed.
THANK YOU!!!
Re: Just want to praise this board for the feedback
Kudos for this post!
This is my guilty pleasure board and I am always to-the-point on names.,, good or bad. And yes, just yesterday someone said "shame on me" for judging a name. Hey, if the name is awful.. wouldn't you want to hear it before you saddle your child with it??
And FWIW, I'm probably older than 99.9% of the moms-to-be on this board, so I do think there's some wisdom with maturity that seems to be lacking sometimes. (NO.. I'm not saying young moms pick bad names!!)
I think most people feel this way. No one typically expects awful feedback on a name that they have considered. That is why people get defensive about responses.
Clearly there are some trolls, but I think most people genuinely looking for feedback are hoping its positive.
::applause::
And congrats on picking a name, OP!
