Baby skipped BF session - worry?

My 1 year old decided to skip her lunchtime nursing session today.  She has been on a schedule since birth and at her age still nurses 4 times a day, plus eats b'fast, lunch and dinner.  I'm concerned because she's petite and, at 10 months, the doctor wanted me to fatten her up.  (She was in the 2% weight percentile. I still think she just finished a growth spurt as she has always been healthy.) As of January 1, she's VERY healthy.  I was thinking about weaning her over the next month but today just freaked me out.

Before I call the dr., I wondered what other moms have gone through.  Thanks!

Re: Baby skipped BF session - worry?

  • Could she be starting to self wean? Does she have a cold/sickness- My DD doesnt nurse well or as often when she doesn't feel good?

  • She's seem to feel fine and I wondered about self weaning.  What do you do when your DD is sick?  Pump and give bottles?

    Thanks!

  • At a year its not abnormal for a child to need to nurse less. Especially if she is eating more soil food. I know my son was only nursing early morning, nap time, and bed time at a year he didn't want to take the time to stop playing to nurse.
