Breastfeeding

Best Pump? And BF with twins.

Hello Ladies,

I am a FTM and have no clue on what kind of pump to register for.  What pumps did/do you like/dislike?

Also since I am having twins.  Are there any good books out there about BF with twins and how to?  I would like to feed them at the same time but is that realistic?

Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

  • Hello and congrats on your babies!

I have the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. It's double electric and I love it! We never would have made it breastfeeding without it because my girls were born early (34w5d) and I was unable to BF from the beginning. I started pumping 2 hours post c/s in the recovery room.

The only book I have (besides Dr Luke's pregnancy book) is Mothering Multiples. It is a La Leche League book and has lots of great info on breastfeeding twins! It is definitely possible to BF them at the same time and lots of people do it! I currently feed my girls separately bc they do better with the individual attention.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Twins are a blast :)

  • I thought that it was easiest to feed the babies individually at first because they don't have head control, but when I had help they were more successful feeding at the same time because they helped each other with the let-down.  It got to the point that I could prop up pillows on either side of me on the bed and put one baby one each side and then feed them that way.  I have always tandem fed at night so that I wouldn't be up as long.  Just be prepared to spend a lot of time feeding them for the first few months, because besides sleeping eating is pretty much all they do.  We have made it 46 weeks and counting!

  • I also love my Medela Pump in Style Advanced. I only have one baby but I have been using it 3x a day, 5 days a week and it still pumps like brand new. It's great!
