Do you know about this? Do you use it for your baby?
Even with our combined income -not that it's that high!- it will still be cheaper to get this for baby. Then I keep my single insurance which is free through my work and husband keep his own health insurance. It'll save us ~ $100 a month on health insurance.
But I don't know much about the program. Is it a good program??
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Re: Child Health Plus - NY State offered children health insurance?
Pretty sure you can't have insurance available to you to receive this. We would have gone this route when dh was unemployed if he hadn't found a job so fast. The program is great and works for those who need it.
I can't even be on dh's insurance if I worked and had company insurance available to me. You have to have meetings and fill out a ton of paperwork, and have a counselor of sorts to get the ball rolling for CHP.
S is basically right. if your company pays for any portion of your health insurance (or your childs) you aren't eligible for it.

I don't think that is true. A woman I work with has both her child and her boyfriend's daughter who lives with her on this plan, for very low cost, and we definitely have insurance available to us. Although I guess she could have it going through her bf rather than her. But she has been very happy with it and said it has covered everything she's needed it for. Including trips to a ped dermatologist, since her son has issues with excema.
we have it for both kids, its freaking great.
My DW qualifies because we couldnt afford to put her and the babies on my insurance, so I think you qualify regardless, but you might have to pay a little more if you have different eligibility.
So, there's no co-pays, everything is covered pretty much, including dental, and I think everyone takes it. My DD had to get the RSV vaccine, and it was even 100% covered (normally $1000+ shot) but she qualified because of her heart- there wasnt event a co-pay on that.
Thank you everyone! Good to hear that those whom are on it like it.
My ex-co-worker actually told me about it and I think she has health insurance through her work. Doesn't hurt to ask.
How do you get more information about the plan? I don't see a information request for individuals online. Maybe contact the local community organizations??
