I don't mean to start the vax debate, but I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of some reliable information on alertnative vaccination schedule?
Back story, my 6 mo DS is battling allergies. We are in the process of testing him to find out exactly what he may be allergic too. His pediatric allergist recommended that we delay any vaccine we can. He has his 6 mo well baby appt next week, I would like to be armed with as much information as possible. The allergist was most concerned with the Polio vaccine, the Hepatitis one and the flu shot.
I am trying to find a reliable source for information on which vaccines we can push back. Thank you.
Re: Alternative vax literature?
Good luck. We are in a similar boat - but LO had a reaction to her first round of vax. Pedi said we should delay any other vax until at least a year, but couldn't provide any additional info. I have searched, but most of the things I find are either totally wacked out unreliable sources, or suspect. Some of the info on the CDC website is useful, but they are VERY careful to not say anything against vax, obviously because they want everyone to get them. And some of it is too med-speak for me to really understand.
At this point, I am refusing to get her additional vax because no one can tell me it's safe, or when it's safe, for someone who has had a severe reaction to the first round. We don't know which one she reacted to or what it was that affected her. If I had done a delayed schedule, at least I would know which one it was so I could give her the rest.
The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears does give info on what is contained in each vax and the possible side effects, as well as what diseases each vax is for.
Also, the food allergy board might be of some help. ?
Why was your allergist concerned with those particular vax? I am curious.
Also, prepare for the debate which I am sure will (but hope won't) start because of this post.
Thank you so much!
That is what I am finding too. Hm, my brother is a doctor , maybe I'll have him go over anything I don't fully understand from the CDC website. And I will request the Sears book from my library.
I have no clue why he was most concerned with those. I will ask him when we see him next week, and I'll ask my Ped maybe she knows. So much info was thrown at me at our last appt I could have missed something.
And I really don't mean for a debate to sprout, it was not my intention at all. Just trying to gather as much info as I can so I can make informed choices.
I'd love to know what you find out. I am stuck with no info I trust, which makes it really hard to make an informed decision. Even my pedi says, "It's up to you" but doesn't give me any info on what the chances of a reaction are. Again, she had a reaction to the first round, so this is a special case.
Also, if you find some info on the CDC website I suggest printing it out ASAP. I found a really interesting article once that I wanted to go back and read and I haven't been able to find it again. (it was about reoccurring adverse reactions) So I don't know if they took it down or what.
Your question is totally valid and shouldn't start a debate, so hopefully it won't happen.
We don't vaccinate, so I can't help, but maybe these can:

Not trying to start a fight here, just helping! I have no opinions on personal choices. Good luck!
Do not use these "sources". Go to the CDC, AAP, and WHO websites for RELIABLE information. People who do not vaccinate are insane and idiotic. Yep, I went there b/c it's true.
This site actually has links to the package inserts - very helpful!
https://vaccinesafety.edu/package_inserts.htm
I searched for and read those before we had LO vaccinated - I highly suggest reading them. I actually read all my medications inserts, even for birth control and antibiotics. There is a lot of info in there!
We aren't talking about not vaxing for the heck of it - we are talking about not vaxing because of adverse and allergic reactions. Don't lump us all together or hijack this thread. You could have left your last two sentences out and your post would have been very helpful.
People who give their child a medication they are allergic to, against the advice of their doctor, are the insane ones. Would you give a child who is allergic to penicillin a dose of that because the CDC says penicillin is generally safe? Anyone who expects a parent to sit there and watch their child have a seizure because the CDC says a child should have a certain shot on a certain day is a lot worse than an idiot. You know they set that schedule based on parent convenience and not for any medical reason, right?
OP, I agree with PP's Dr. Sears recommendation. Also, you can look on PubMed for free, peer-reviewed studies from the US and other countries. Many of the them are from leading, reputable publications like Vaccine, The Lancet, and New England Journal of Medicine.
