When did you end rice cereal?

DS is 15 months and I'm still giving him rice cereal for breakfast.  Is that crazy?  I figure it has iron and other good things and I make it with milk, so it's a little extra calcium for him.  When did you stop?

Re: When did you end rice cereal?

  • We stopped rice around 10 months and oatmeal around a year just because I had so much on hand I want to use up!

  • Why don't you switch him to regular oatmeal?  It soooooo much better for them...and tastes better too.

  • DS really didn't care for rice cereal so probably around 7 months.

  • We just opened up a new box of oatmeal, but when that's done I'm not buying anymore.  Gonna make regular oatmeal.

You mean like Quaker Oats?  I have 2 canisters that I use to make smoothies for Nicholas.  You really think it tastes better?  To me it tastes like glue.  Do you add anything to it?

  • I never gave rice cereal but did give oatmeal and still do to both my girls since it has iron and is a great breakfast meal.

Yep.  Well, actually, I like steel cut oats better, but we use Quaker quick cooking oats all the time.  I add all sorts of stuff to it for her, but her favorite is probably strawberry yogurt or blueberries.

Hmmm that's an idea.  I know for a fact that Nicholas won't eat Oatmeal in any way shape or form (although it's been awhile, so maybe we'll try again), but Ava might like it, so maybe I'll try it with her with some fruit or yogurt.
