should i be worried about her weight?

Dd was 7.0 at birth and went down to 6.7 (if I remember correctly). She was 6 1/2 months at her appt last week and is just 14.0 now. The doc didn't talk about supplementing w formula (kudos to him) but he does want to see her bulk up a bit so he suggested solids 3-4 times daily (we were only doing twice). She nurses 6-8 times on weekends and 7-8 times on weekdays (4 bottles when I am at work). Diapers are fine and she is a happy baby during the day (at night her eczema is making her miserable). Tell me to stop worrying and that she is fine!

Re: should i be worried about her weight?

  • If I am reading correctly she was 14 pounds at 6 months, which sounds big to me LOL.  My DS is 6 months and a whopping 11 pounds 5 ounces after being born at 7-5.  DD was 15 pounds at 6 months, but started out at 8.  I don't think there is anything wrong with your LO's weight.  From what I'm reading that puts her at roughly 25% which is well within the normal range.

ETA:  If you are nursing exclusively and are concerned you could do a weighed feeding to make sure LO is taking in enough.

  • If she doesnt seem hungry, she is probably fine. My LO was 17.4 lbs at 6 months, but my BFFs son was 13. They both take about the same amount of expressed breast milk. She is probably fine, especially if she is hitting her milestones.
  • She sounds fine to me too.

Can I ask about the eczema bothering her at night?  What does she do that leads you to believe it's bothering her?  What are you doing to help it?  My LO was just diagnosed with eczema and there's no history in my family so I've never had to deal with it.  It's in DH's family, but he doesn't have it either, so we are at a loss.  The pedi just said to bathe her with just water, and use lotion.  Any other tips?  My LO has been having trouble sleeping, after being an AWESOME sleeper....  Could it be the eczema?

Sorry to hijack your post.  You can PM me if you want?  Thank you!!

  • You're all awesome. I felt fine about it until he said she was in the 9th percentile and (even tho he didn't say it) failure to thrive popped into my head. I'll go back to believing she is gaining just fine!
