TTC after 35

Am I over reacting?

When I went in for my CD-3 b/w and us there was a couple of cysts so I could not do an IUI this cycle.  I have insurance that will cover up to 3 IUIs at 50% and they don't count the cycle until there has been an injection.  When I checked out of the RE office I told the financial person that I would not be doing a cycle.  She still made me sign a waiver that if my insurance did not approve, I would pay OOP since I already had the ultrasound (they did not do bloodwork since one cyst was very large).  I asked if the approval for the IUI would work for the next cycle.  She told me we will see, just sign the form.  At this point I was crying over another canceled cycle and just needed to leave.  However, I stuck around until all of the paperwork was done and waited until I got into the elevator to loose it.

Today I get an email from the financial person.  It said, good news, your insurance has approved your IUI for your current cycle.  I feel like that was insensitive since I am not doing a cycle.  I also don't want this to count against my IUI's.  Am I being over emotional about this?  I really want to write back and tell her that I think that she is being insensitive and I need to know if this is going to cover my next cycle if I actually do get to move on to another IUI.  I also want to ask that my case be transfered back to my previous financial advisor since I did not have these problems with him.

Wow, that was long.  If you read all that, you deserve a cupcake.

Re: Am I over reacting?

  • I DO NOT think you are overreacting!  IF is an emotional roller coaster and that financial person should know that EVERYTHING is a sensitive issue and it should be treated as such.  I do not know how much information they have access to (i.e whether or not your doctor was planning to go ahead with the IUI or not) but in any regards she should stick to the financial information--not offering any "good news" unless she knows the whole situation.  I am sorry that happened.  :(

  • I may be the minority but yes, I think you are overreacting to the financial person. I would not tell them they are being insensitive even if you think they are. You need to play nicely with financial person because you will need them going forward. I think it is fine to confirm that this will not count as an IUI cycle but leave out the insensitive part. They are probably processing lots of people and mistakes in who is who and cycling happen.

I completely agree.  I don't think she was insensitive.  For all you know, she was given the wrong info from your nurse or RE.  I would definitely make sure this doesn't mess up your insurance coverage though.

    Good luck!

  • In my experience, the financial people are NOT as sensitive as you may find the doctor and nursed to be. With that being said, I would have probably felt the same way you did but try not to let it bother you. The paper you signed and the letter that you received were probably just protocol. Take a deep breathe and try to let it roll of your back.

  • I'm sorry you were cancelled again. I think you should just clarify with the financial person that you need coverage for the next cycle, and see what kind of reaction you get.

For me, that message would not be a reason to request a different financial rep. I have zero expectation that the financial people will be anything other than insurance-types. (And, my nurses have done worse.) But, you have to do what's best for you, considering you may have a prolonged relationship with this clinic. Good luck.

  • She knew that it was a cancelled cycle because I told her.  I was much happier with the last person that was working my case.  They never told me that I was changing.  I think that I will just take a deep breath and wait for my copies to come from the insurance company.  If anything seems off then I will let DH handle it.

Thanks for help keeping me calm ladies.
