3rd Trimester

Classic Monday

OB's office just called and said I failed the 1 hour glucose test, grr! So now I take the 3 hour tomorrow. So my question for those who have been through this before is what is different about the 1 hour vs the 3 hour (over than timeframe)? Do I need to drink a lot more of the sugary stuff? Am I more likely to get sick?

Re: Classic Monday

  • I think that it's twice the amount of sugar, if I remember correctly, but it's the same amount of fluid.  It's really not that bad.  Just drink plenty of water and bring something to take your mind off of it.  I brought DH who is always good for a laugh!  I was so upset about taking the 3 hour but remember it's so much better to know for certain if you have GD or not.  It's a small inconvience to pay for a healthy birth.

Also, this is probably strange but I loved people watching in the waiting room for 3 hours - you saw women at all stages of their pregnancy.  I could pick out the ones that were coming in for their first ultrasound, the moms who were making their weekly trip to see if baby was close to coming and there were even a couple of moms with their newborns coming in for follow ups.  Just try and make the best of it!

  • I had the three hour glucose test and it wasn't too bad.  The glucose drink is twice as sweet as the one hour though. Just make sure you bring a book or something to do while you wait for your hourly blood to be drawn. Good luck with everything!
