Jackson Wyatt was born on Saturday, January 14th!

That Friday was a pretty stressful day. We just picked up our dog who had knee surgery and she was not feeling good at all. We had to use a sling to help her around and she would whine all the time if we were not right next to her crate. We had gotten up really early that day and I was so ready to get some sleep.

However around midnight I started to get some strong menstrual cramps that were starting to become regular. My husband and I started timing them and they went from 5 minutes apart to 1-3 minutes apart lasting from 30 seconds to 1 minute in two hours. I also noticed a pink watery discharge when I went to use the restroom and I knew it was time. I started shaking really bad and we got everything together, loaded up the dog to drop off at my grandma?s house and we headed to the hospital.

We got to the hospital around 4am and I was 2cm and 90% effaced. They had me walk around for an hour and then admitted me to my room. My contractions were still coming every 1-3 minutes. They were painful but nothing I couldn?t manage. I was more worried about how bad they were going to become and I was nervous that I was feeling them mostly in my back (I was so scared of back labor). However, as soon as I got admitted to my room I received an epidural and it was WONDERFUL. It didn?t hurt going in and I could still move my legs. It just didn?t feel the pain anymore, just some pressure when I was having a contraction. I had a button that I could push to give me more of the epidural if I started feeling any pain.

Even though I got my epidural at 3cm, I still progressed very quickly on my own and I was relieved I didn?t need to have my water broken or receive pitocin. A few hours in I started getting the shakes very badly and started to feel panicky. I began to cry almost hysterically which I was confused about since I was not in any pain. My mom thought I might be in transition and had me checked. Sure enough, I went from 5 cm to 8cm in an hour!

The whole labor was really easy. I was not in pain and I had my family and husband who were taking very good care of me with foot rubs and head massages, brining me water and ice etc.

However, the delivery was a nightmare. I began to push at 2pm and was making some progress. I could feel the pressure of the contractions and knew when it was time to push. The on-call obgyn came in and I did NOT care for him at all. He was very impersonal, rude and cold. My nurse however was an angel and helped me so much with pushing and encouragement. After a few hours she thought my baby might be sunny side up since everytime I pushed, his head would go down then go right back up again. After FOUR HOURS of pushing the doctor comes in and has me push for him. He was yelling at me to push even harder and I was giving it all I had. He then looks at me, says ?I can?t help you until you move that baby down? and just walks out of the room.

By this point I was almost delirious with exhaustion and completely emotionally drained, but I continued to push for another half hour. I did not think I could do it and I was just crying and crying. The nurse told me the shift change was in a half hour and suggested I rest for that long. A half hour later at 7pm, my nurse walk in with a new doctor. I swear she was the most beautiful woman in the world. The first words out of her mouth were ?I can help you?.

She explained we would try to use the vacuum for four contractions and to push like I never had before. If the vacuum didn?t work , then I would need a c-section. All of a sudden it was go time. The bright light came on, a bunch of nurses came in and everyone was ready. I pushed SO hard even though I was beyond exhausted (I was at 5 hours of pushing at this time). After two contractions, my baby boy was delivered, eyes open and crying. He was sunny-side up like the nurse thought, which explains why I could not get him from out from under my public bone

Its been a rough recovery for me but my baby boy is just the most sweet and mellow baby and we are just over the moon. I am still angry that the first doctor let me go on for so long and did not listen to the nurse when she tried to explain the problem. However I am so grateful to my husband and mom, and all the other nurses and doctor who delivered my baby and helped me get through it.

  • Congratulations on your baby boy. That first doctor was horrible but I'm glad that you were able to push your baby out after 5 hours.
  • What a beautiful baby! Congrats! I'd be mad as hell at that first doctor.

  • Aww - he looks like such a little angel!  Hope you recover quickly.  Thank you for sharing your story.
  • What a beautiful baby boy! I am so sorry you had to deal with that rude doctor, but glad you got a better one for the birth. I also didn't have my regular obgyn deliver me, but had another doc from the practice who I had seen once before and didn't particularly care for, but he sure wasn't even close to being as horrible as the one you dealt with!

Enjoy your new little bundle of joy mommy!

anyway I hope you recover quickly and keep loving on that little boy. so cute!!!
