Playtex Drop-in nurser ?

We are giving these a try b/c DD isn't doing too well on the Dr Browns. (Level 1 nipples are a little too fast for her.) I have a few questions- How do I know how much she's drank or have left in the nurser? It semi-collapses so I can't tell! Also, do I squeeze the air out again, say after burping her half way into a feeding? Any other insight you csn provide will be great! TIA!

Re: Playtex Drop-in nurser ?

  • The slow flow Playtex nipples are very slow so I think they'll be perfect for your LO.

To see how much she's eaten you could open the bottle and let the Drop In "deflate" to see how much is gone. Or you could also pour the remainder in to a different bottle and see that way.

I don't push the air out at all. I haven't noticed a difference between doing it and not doing it so I don't bother.

I did two reviews on my blog about them (not compensated in any way), so check them out if you'd like!

I never pushed the air out, but I would just open the lid so it would go back to normal and I could see what was left

  • I opened the lid as well.  I never bothered pushing the air out.  The nipples are very slow.  I tried just about every bottle for DD when she got out of the NICU (tommee tippee, Dr. Browns, Avent, Born Free, Pampers, Medela and something else I don't remember) and the Drop Ins slow flo was the only nipple she could take.

  • I've opened the bottle top to let the drop-in 'deflate' and then I see the amount used and leftover.

Word of advice: Don't squeeze out the air! The little lip of the nurser on top of the bottle isn't enough when squeezing and I've had them leak/almost explode. I learned quickly that there was no point in my squeezing so I advise to not do that, unless you want a mess.

  •  It looks like I'm the only one who actually pushes the air out. As long as you push it straight up (not against the sides) it doesn't leak. As for checking to see how much is left I just unscrew the top and it realeases the bag. I only do it at the end though cause my LO will slow down his sucking when he's ready to burp. Just be careful unscrewing the top at the end because sometimes when my little porker is finished there isn't enough left to reinflate the bag so it spills a little bit because it's all bunched up at the top. Also I do push the air out again after a burp or anytime I take it out of his mouth.
