baby proofing weird stuff?

So I know we all can baby proof outlets, cupboards and bookshelves, but any ideas for the following?

our fireplace...we currently have an ottoman in front of it but I would like to move that away. Then all we have is a freestanding screen. Any ideas on how to attach this to the fireplace?

our winerack: it's in our dining room which we would like to open up to Alexander to play in, but it holds wine bottles and wine glasses, both of which we don't have anywhere else to store. So the winerack has to stay...how can we keep him away from the dangerous glass?

    My DH used wire and some metal ties to attach our ffreestanding ireplace screen to the hearth on all four corners and in the center, so that LO couldn't pull it down. (DH prefers fixing things with what we have around rather than buying baby-proof specific gear. )

    In the end, our landlord ended up replacing the screen with folding glass doors that are flat with the fireplace opening. We put a plastic ruler (weird, I know, but it works) along the bottom of the doors and they can't fold open.

    If attaching the screen doesn't work, you might look for  a different fireplace door on craigslist or at habitat freestore or something.

    We have these latches to attach our barstools to the bar to keep them from tipping.  (They're really lightweight.)  Would this somehow work for the fireplace screen?  They attach with removable adhesive though we have to put some epoxy between the latch and the adhesive (not on the furniture itself).

     I have a friend that has a baby gate type thing (looks like a portion of a superyard maybe) in front of their tv electronics and it seems to work well.  Maybe for the wine?

    This is what we do, too. We use bungee cords to attach the edges, and so far she hasn't learned how to defeat it (fingers crossed). Works like a charm!

    I am only home in the evenings and on weekends but I don't babyproof much around the house.  If there are certain dangerous items, I work to redirect J over and over and over.  When it gets to a point that I can't do it anymore....I block it with a big toy.  (Fireplace and wine rack here too....).  While it is blocked, he forgets about it.  Then I open it up again and hope that he remembers it is a NO NO!  He has been ok with the fire place.....but the wine rack is still wayyyyyyyy to interesting!?
