Which one did they give you and how long did you have to be on it? I know it can vary due to the reason for the medication but I just wanted to get a general feel for what medication and the duration. Thanks!

Re: If you recieved an anticoagulant after your c section
DS born via unplanned C-section at 40w6d
I had to be put on several blood thinners since I developed deep vein thrombosis/blood clots in my leg and arm(I had complications and was on the hospital for almost a month after my c-section) I was started on Lovenox shots but had to stop after my platelets dropped(they didn't know if it was due to shots or if I was having an autoimmune reaction that can occur with mutliple blood transfusions....over the course of my stay, I had 10 bags of blood) I was then put on a different shot for a week while taking warfin(coumadin). I had to give myself the shot 1x a day while getting my coumdin levels into the theraputic range.
At my hospital, they don't normally automatically give you anticoagulants after a c-section. You have to wear those air things that pump your legs for 12 hours after the c-section and then the nurses make you get out of bed and make sure you keep walking to prevent clots.
My clots did not occur because of the c-section. I needed a PICC line put in after I got so sick and developed clots from that. Then since once you have a clot, you are more prone to get more, I developed one in my leg a couple days later.
I've been on the coumadin since July and since a recent scan showed I am clot free, I will find out on Tuesday at my next dr appt when I can stop the coumadin.
