My LO is in the 22% for weight and 90% for height at her 9 month pedi appt and I have basically always nursed "on demand" so to speak except when I am away from her she gets 2 or 3 5 oz btl of BM. When i am with her I have no idea how much ounce wise she actually gets but she nurses several times a day for less than 10 mins total. She has been transitioning slowly to solids but she has been taking her time. When i am home it seems she wants to nurse pretty often. Like between 2 1/2 and 3 hrs sometimes.
Can I nurse her too much?? I am not concerned about her weight but rather creating a habit of food being comfort or that whenever she needs soothing it's associated with food. Is this silly? I am being influenced by family members so I just need some objective advice please. I should also add that I do love nursing her but plan on weaning her pretty much around 12 months or shortly therafter. It feels like it will be right for us. I'm tired and really sick of pumping when away from her.
TIA
Re: a breastfeeding question at 10 months...
I don't think you can nurse too much, at least during the daytime (we had a comfort sucking overnight problem that nearly drove me insane over the past month or so).
She doesn't really think food = comfort. She thinks mommy = comfort. You're not setting up bad eating habits by nursing for comfort, you're setting up a good mom/child relationship where she trusts you to make her feel better.
You could consider weaning off the pump but continuing to bf on demand when together. A lot of moms can do that for months (or longer) after they hit a year. I think you'll probably see her frequency drop off as her solids do increase - and they will, likely, soon.

Yep. I agree. I nursed DD1 to 3 years but stopped pumping at 1. I'm nursing DD2 at 18 months but also stopped pumping at 1. You certainly don't have to nurse that long, but once you stop pumping, it's all so much easier. You can do things on your own time frame then.
