DH and I are thinking of names and he wants an opinion..

He loves the name Arden Marie.  I am not sold on it.  I came across the name Adelynne--various spellings I have not even thought of which one I like the best--and I like it.  We are at a stand still.  He likes both, but loves his more.  :)  I told him if we decide on Adelynne he can pick the middle name.

Which one do you guys prefer?  I had a bunch of boy names picked and not very many girl names b/c we have so many friends and family that have little girls and my top 5 were taken by them.

Re: DH and I are thinking of names and he wants an opinion..

  • I think arden is cute and the nickname ardy is very adorable. I also loved the name Addilyn, but it was very popular around here with my first pregnancy so I took the n off and came up with Addily. Couldn't imagine her with any other name! Both names are super cute good luck!!

  • I love Arden. It's somehow classic and unique at the same time. Addelynne is pretty too, but much more cutesy.

  • I actually really like both names, but I feel like Arden is a better choice due to the fact that it ages better and it sounds more like an "adult" name than Adelynn, which can be a bit juvenile for a grown up. GL and I hope you can decide on a name soon!
  • I know 4 Adalynns (I think they are all spelled this way too) all under the age of 2. I haven't heard Adren before and I love it! But both are very pretty.

  • Of the two, which I both like, I'm going to have to say I like your H's choice just a little bit better. I do like them both. Would you be okay with your LO name being shortened to Addy? Because that is where my hesitation is with that name.

  • Why don't you chose both for now, and then decide when the baby is born. This way you will know which name fits her best.

  • I love Arden! Like pp, I think it is both classic & "different". Adelynne is cute, too, but I know several under 5. For me, knowing lots of kids with a certain name rules it out. Good luck! H & I are having a hard time naming as well.

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I looked on baby center and Arden is way more popular than Adelynne which is funny b/c so many of you have heard Adelynne before.  DH and I have heard of Arden, an older man, but never Adelynne.  We don't mind the nn Addy, but we would not use a nn for Arden.  Neither one of us like Ardy.  DH is very excited about all of the comments, but now is concerned that Arden will become popular.  HAHAHA.  We are starting with both of them on the list and each coming up with 4 more names that we both like a lot and then picking from the top 10...since we just started.  :)

  • I prefer Adelynne over Arden for a girl.
  • I think Adelynne Marie is beautiful. Not a fan of Arden though. That's the name of both a street and mall in my town. :)

  • I like Addelynne, or one of the various spellings, better than Arden.  Personally it ends up being about choice for her as an adult.  With Addelynne, she has the options of Addie or Lynne for nn, if she wants to when she is older.  With Arden, there isn't a way she can personalize it that I can see.
  • I wanted Addeline for DD's name and we compromised with Addison. If you plan on using the nickname Addie just know there's a ton of them right now! Addison went from #113 to #23 in the year DD was born (2006) and now it's #11. So if you share a nickname with that name it will be pretty common.

I love Arden because it's more unusual. I'm biased, but I regret naming DD something that is shared with a lot of kids. We're going with more classic names this time around but I'm sure there will still be repeats. DH is not big on unusual names.

  • I love the name Arden (unfortunately DH did not).  I think Arden Marie sounds really similar to Arden Myrin (pronounced Marine) - the girl that was on Mad TV.  But I don't think that many people know of her (although, that's how I fell in love with that name - lol).

  • Arden is waaaaay better in my mind.  Ages better and less popular.  It would be a no brainer for me. GL!
