Leaking?

I just read a birth story that freaked me out a bit. For the last maybe 2 weeks I've have some watery leakage in my underwear. It usually happens after I go to the bathroom so I thought either it was urine or discharge or I just wasn't wiping well enough! Well today after reading about the girl who was leaking amniotic fluid or from her water I was concerned so I called the doctor. She said if it were amniotic fluid it would be continuous so it didn't sound worrisome...could be urine or cervical discharge (I figured it wasn't discharge because it never leaves any residue). Anyone have anything similar? Now I'm paranoid of course. It's so hard to know what to be concerned about...I never even knew you could leak and they are always talking about lots of discharge and urine issues while pregnant so it's hard to distinguish what is what! Any thoughts?

  • I experience the same thing you do, some days its more then others. If it makes you feel any better, my best friend went to L&D twice for what she thought was her water breaking but it was just a gush of cervical fluid. I would just keep an eye on it and if smells sweet or becomes a lot give your doctor a call back.

  • I've been thinking I've been "leaking" for the last week or so.  It's watery, but just enough to dampen my underwear, not soak or go through to my pants.  I was thinking about mentioning it to my OB on Monday (at m appoinment).  I've heard your water can break, but the baby's head can plug up the hole.  I don't know if that's true or not.  I'm not super concerned, because like you said, it's not a ton.  I'm just drinking plenty of water in the mean time.  I've also noticed it's when I sit or stand and it kinda feels like a small squirt like when I'm on a heavy period.

  • I've had that sensation before too but ive even had that from wetness or discharge before I was pregnant. It's so confusing. I'd be interested to hear what your doctor says. Hopefully these babies just come on out so we can stop questioning!
  • This happened to me and it was amniotic fluid. Please please please go in to L&D. Mine was tiny- less than a quarter size and kind of looked like white discharge. I had my baby about 40 hours after I noticed it, but it could have happened the week before too because it wasn't the first time something like that had happened. Baby is doing great, no infection but he did have to spend time in NicU (he still roomed with me though). If you go in IRS a really fast check that only takes a few minutes. If it's nothing you'll be in and out in an hour.

Also mine did not smell at all and was not continuous.
  • I had watery discharge for about 7-12 days before my water broke. It was definitely not like amniotic fluid or my "normal" discharge. Not sure if that helps, but it sounds similar to me and everything is fine with DS.
