So I have like a billion dollars in student loans and Im starting to freak out about it and paying it back. I dont make a lot of money ...in fact my loans are 3 times my salary. Anyone else having this problem?
Im still in school but yeah I know the issue well lol. My best friend just graduated and cant even get an interview. She cant even afford the interest on her loans and all the loan companies can do is offer a deferment. That will only cause the total to go up so she really doesnt know what to do. Sorry this isnt helpful at all but youre not alone!
DH and I have tons of student loan debt. We pay $1,000 a month in student loans which is crazy IMO! That's what we get for going to private colleges/universities and DH getting his masters. ugh. We were even lucky and our parents paid for amost all of our undergrad when we were in school.
It's depressing. We have just realized they'll be there for a long time and we're just pretending they don't exist. haha On the plus side, student loans have lower interest than other loans and don't really affect your credit. I just keep telling myself that.
I completely feel your pain. I was on a full scholarshup for undergrad, but then I went to a private law school. My student loans are almost as much as my mortgage... ugh. Thank God for income-based repayment. It's still a pretty penny every month, but I just remember that it could have been more.
Yep, DH has crazy student loans, and even though the loan payment is more than he makes in 2 weeks, they expect him to pay them. We keep putting them in forbearence, but idk what we will do if they don't let us do that anymore. I love how we don't qualify for economic hardship. I cannot afford groceries, but they think we have $900 a month to pay in student loans.
I am in the same boat. The good news is I called them when I was on maternity leave and funds were tight to ask what the late fees are. They said "there are none" (federal student loans). The interest continues to accrue, but they never really go after you for student loans, and most lenders won't hold them against you. I figure they'll get paid off eventually, and I wouldn't have the job I do without em. But I am always envious of people who have none!
