Cost of day care?

Hi All,

I just found out I'll be moving to MN in the spring, and I'm actually still negotiating a contract. I'm trying to take into account the potential change in the cost of living, and I was curious what people typically pay for day care?

I'd be looking in the east/northeast suburbs, from about Shoreview down to around Woodbury.

If anyone is willing to share the approximate cost of what they pay/month for either a group or in-home day care, I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm going to do some research myself, but thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Cost of day care?

  • Our daycare center will be $300 per week for FT infant care.

  • All of the quotes I have gotten for in home infant care is $40-$42/day, so $200-210 a week.

  • In home avg is $150-215 per week for the suburbs, some areas are higher than others. Centers are more like $300-350 per week.

Of course some are more or less but that is the general average for the cities that I have found.

  • We pay $250/week for 4 days for a center in the suburbs.
  • I use an unlicensed in home provider.  She charges me $30 per day per child (I have an infant and a toddler).  They go 4 days a week for up to 9 hours a day.

  • Our 16 month old goes 5 days a week, 9 hours a day. In Plymouth, and we pay $110/week at a licensed in-home. We adore her and we're really lucky she's so affordable!

  • We live in Woodbury, and toured six centers last November looking for a day care for our new baby after he or she is born in June. They ranged from about $330 to $370 for an infant for 5 days a week. We will most likely be going 3 days a week, and the center we picked was around $270 if we do that (but I also get a 10% discount through work, so it will go down to around $245). We didn't look at in-home, because we don't know anyone in the area who uses in-home and could give us a good referral.

She is one of my good friend's SIL.  She just happens to live a minute from my house.  So convenient and affordable for us.

  • Do you know if she is able/wanting to take an infant?  We're looking for the fall and live in Plymouth.  Thanks so much for your help!
