Parenting after a Loss

DS is more interested in the world than nursing already

I cannot watch tv and nurse. If DH talks, DS pulls away (sometimes in middle of a let down) to look at DH. He has been waking up more at night probably due to less efficient nursing during the day. Is there any tricks that I can use to keep him interested in eating?

  • DD used to get sprayed all over the face when she did this!  The only thing to do is to either deal with it, which is what I did. I didn't really mind nursing non stop and/or very frequently. I kept a burp cloth on hand to catch the spray and just rolled with it. Or you can nurse in a dark distraction free room. It just depends on your preferences.

  • Sounds like my DD. nothing was more interesting than daddy's voice. And God forbid he sit on the couch near us. Like pp said, deal with it or go to a dark quiet place.

  • DS does this even in a dark place so I just have a cloth handy and even tuck one into my nursing tank for drips!

  • DD is starting to get distracted too, which I never thought would happen since she loves to eat! I either let it happen if we are just lounging and her taking her time doesn't matter, or if I want her to be more focused we sit or lie down in a quiet room.

  • I've run into this, too... DH & I have figured out that Adelaide eats best in the recliner we have set up in her nursery.  We turn off the overhead light and turn on the little lamp on her dresser and make sure not to talk while she's eating.  It took a little adjustment, because at first I was all, "Okay, bottle time = a chance for mom to catch up on the DVR!"... but then I realized that just was NOT working for Adelaide and I needed to just feed her in a distraction-free zone.

Also, she's teething right now and so will quite often push the bottle away but then cry because she's hungry, and then she gets frustrated and distracted.  How old is your little man?  Could he be starting to teeth?

. My DS is 3.5 months old. Although he drools a lot, I don't think he is teething yet.
