I had an ectopic pregnancy in November and had two rounds of methotrexate. My hcg levels just came back normal and my dr. Is wanting to do a hsg test as soon as I have my first period since the pregnancy. Well last week I started cramping and felt like I would start any minute; however, I only spotted a little bit. Then Friday I started cramping pretty bad and started spotting followed by some bleeding. Today I have bled some (but mostly it's dark brown). I guess my question is...does anyone know what I should expect as far as AF post ectopic/methotrexate??

Re: AF after ectopic? XP-(the nest)
I just finished my first AF post ectopic and it was very similar to yours. I had never had brown bleeding before but according to the nurse I spoke to it is quite common ectopic or not and if it only lasts a few days it just means your body is cleaning things out and you should not worry. An HSG test will be good for alleviating any of your worries as well.
Good Luck!
I lost my baby in November too. It wasnt ectopic but I have yet to experience a normal AF. I had a two days of bleeding followed by some spotting. My doctor seemed to think this was normal. I am looking forward to a more normal AF to help me move forwards.
Good luck!
As far as bleeding, and what to expect with methotrexate, I don't think there is any such thing as "normal". When I asked my doctors what to expect after my first methotrexate injection for ectopic, they said I might bleed a little bit- mostly spotting. They also told me not to consider this my first period. I had no bleeding whatsoever.
Then, after my second injection, I asked what to expect as far as bleeding, and the doctor said they had no idea and that it all depended on my body. Could be light, could be heavy, could be nothing at all. In my case, I started bleeding heavily, and dark brown. It was nothing like a normal period, and it was so heavy it really freaked me out. I called the doctor and they told me it was totally fine. That heavy bleeding lasted for 10 days. Then, 2 weeks after THAT, I started what I would consider a very normal period.
The whole thing totally messes with your hormones, and it takes some time for things to level out. What your body does in the meantime seems really unpredictable.
As for whether or not what you're having is considered a period so you can get your HSG done, I think that's going to depend on your doctors interpretation. It's frustrating, because I saw two different doctors in my group, and one of them considered that first round of bleeding to be my first post-period, while the second doctor said only the second round of bleeding was a period. That might not be useful information other than to tell you that it's crazy-making, and you're not alone. It's hard to get a grasp on what to expect, since everyone is so different. It's like they don't know what to expect until it's happening, and then it's exactly what they expect, if that makes any sense.
I'm so sorry you're going through this.
