5th bday boy gifts

One of DD's friends from preschool is turning 5.  I have a M&D birthday cake toy that I could give but didn't know if that is a good one or should look for something a little more up the "boy" alley.  Thoughts or suggestions for alternatives?  TIA!

Re: 5th bday boy gifts

  • If there is a theme to the party I always pick a toy or a shirt that corresponds.  For example if it is a Toy Story party a safe bet is that kid likes Toy Story so I would look for a cool Toy Story puzzle or a shirt.

  • My oldest is about to turn 5.  I think he would probably like a M&D birthday cake toy just fine.  He's got the cookie set and still plays with it.  As for alternatives, mine is still into Toy Story and Cars, matchbox/hotwheels, action figures, legos (my 5yo still plays with duplos, largely because then DS2 can play with them also).  Some of his friends are really into star wars, mario, TMNT, superheroes, but he isn't so much yet.

  • My twins just turned five.  They were really excited about the scuba Spider Man toy and NASCAR Lego set.  They also got a Star Wars version of the game Trouble. That has been a big hit!

  • DS is about to turn 5.  He wouldn't really be into the cake set, DD would definitely play with it more.  He is into action figures, sports, cars...basically he is the stereotypical boy!
  • My ds just turned5. He's very in to superhero action figures and lego sets. I'm not sure if he'd like the cake set.

I was trying to take a relaxing bath last night, bubbles candle. I kept feeling uncomfortable and finally realized scuba spiderman was under my butt!

  • We just bought a gift for a friend's son who's turning 5 soon. He's into Transformers, cars, and legos. We ended up getting him one of those lego kits. FWIW, my parents are buying our soon to be 2 yo the M & D cookie set (similar toy) so I'm thinking the birthday cake might not get a lot of play from a 5 yo (but heck, I could be wrong!).
  • DD (2.5 yrs old) got that birthday set and she plays with it a lot. DS who is almost 5 has never paid attention to it. If you don't know the theme then I recommend anything hotwheels, matchbox, or legos like pp's mentioned.
