  • haha - oops, forgot to finish.  I've been working out for a while now.

I try to avoid greasy foods or foods I don't eat often if I have a run coming up.

For first timers - take it easy, enjoy it, don't give up, and it's not the Biggest Loser, you wont lose 20 lbs in one week.

  • 1. What is "your" workout activity? (running, swimming, biking, rowing, hiking, etc...)

For the past several months, running. I love Nia, too (modern dance, yoga, martial arts fusion)

    2. How old where you when you first started?

Running -- right before I found out I was pregnant, so 33. I started dance when I was 5 and have a minor in choreography. I was a dance major until I realized the average retirement age for performance is 26, and I was better at academics than dance.

    3. Do you ever compete in this sport regularly?

I haven't yet but hope to start signing up for 5Ks soon.

    4. What is one thing you swear off (or try to do) during "training season"?

I always try to eat fairly healthy, so I have no idea.

    5. One word(s) of advice to someone just starting out?

You can accomplish anything if you start slow, stay consistent, and have faith in yourself :-)

    1. What is "your" workout activity? (running, swimming, biking, rowing, hiking, etc...) running then weight lifting

    2. How old where you when you first started? I joined CC in 7th grade, so about 13 I guess. I lifted a lot in high school but got back into it about 4 years ago.

    3. Do you ever compete in this sport regularly? I started racing in 2010 and did quite a few races in 2011. Two 1/2 marathons and various other distances.

    4. What is one thing you swear off (or try to do) during "training season"? Nothing really. I try to eat a good pre-run or workout snack so I have enough energy, but I don't eliminate anything. Beer has carbs ;)

    5. One word(s) of advice to someone just starting out? start slowly and measure progress through anything other than a scale

  • 1. What is "your" workout activity? (running, swimming, biking, rowing, hiking, etc...)

    Running

    2. How old where you when you first started?

    18

    3. Do you ever compete in this sport regularly?

    I've done a 1/2 and full marathon.

    4. What is one thing you swear off (or try to do) during "training season"?

Drinks with calories (gatorade during a 10+ mile run doesn't count)...they don't provide nutrition and only weigh you down.

    5. One word(s) of advice to someone just starting out?

Start out slow and stick with it.  It took me several years of walk/running to be able to run 4 miles.  It takes a while to get to know your own body...when you can push yourself and when you can't.  Whenever I feel like skipping a workout, I remember that I always feel better after working out and I never regret working out...I usually regret skipping.

    1. What is "your" workout activity? (running, swimming, biking, rowing, hiking, etc...)

Ideally it would be running and hiking, but since I live in a miserable climate, it's currently 30 day shred. ... The day before we got married, H and I hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim.

    2. How old where you when you first started?

    I started running at 25 or 26 (I'm now 29). Lost 50lbs.

    3. Do you ever compete in this sport regularly?

    Bwhahahaha... not even close.

    4. What is one thing you swear off (or try to do) during "training season"?

I LOVE running intervals. Anytime I use a treadmill I run intervals. I mix up whether I do 1/2 mile or 1/4 miles intervals, but I love the variety. When I'm at the sprint speed I can always talk myself into "1 more minute".

    5. One word(s) of advice to someone just starting out?

Stick with it even when you don't want to. You'll be happy you did it later.

One word(s) of advice to someone just starting out? Find a coach or a group to guide you. Make small achievable goals to keep you motivated. Don't give up when you start to plateau. It's naturally to plateau.
