2nd Trimester

anterior placenta and c-sections

My ultrasound tech and dr. have mentioned the words anterior placenta when either looking at the baby or looking at my charts.Neither one told me anything  or explained it to me. So I googled it and I wasnt worried until it got to the part about c-sections. I had one with my DS and will likely have another. Has anyone had a c-section with their baby in back of the placenta. TIA

Re: anterior placenta and c-sections

  • I did. My doc didn't seemed concerned at all. I think the C/S cut is so low that it avoids the placenta.

  • They would have told you if it were a concern. My friend had a normal c-section with one. I, on the other hand, have a low lying anterior placenta, so I was told that if I have to have a c section they will have to cut high.

  • With my DD I had that. It caused no complications for me.

  • I have an anterior placenta and I never thought about this. Obviously I'm hoping for a vaginal birth, but you never know. Another question to ask my doctor. I have no idea where exactly my placenta is in there.

  • the c-section normally done is LSCS or lower segment ceasarean section... it is cut so low that it avoids your placenta.

This. Your placenta moves as you grow so it could be completely anterior now but might only be slightly anterior at birth. I had an anterior placenta with DD and everything ended up fine with my c/s.

  • I did too- no issues at all.

  • I've been wondering about this too. I have an anterior placenta this time and will be having a RCS.
