What do you find the best way is to organize your clothes between when your oldest outgrows and it fits your youngest?

I'm not sure if I should fill tote boxes with all one thing (like pants or tshirts) or by season or by size. I have a summer baby and a winter baby which makes it a little harder.

How do you organize them?

We use those big plastic tubs and sort by age.

I organize by size and season in clear rubbermaid containers. DS stayed in the same size across seasons but I felt this was the best way to easily access everythin when the time comes. I grabbed all the summer 0-3 and nb stuff and went through for the twins.

ETA: If I am putting away 12-18mo summer clothes and there is a 6-12mo outfit that fit during that season, it goes in the same bin since there is so much variability in brands and sizes.

I use the big Rubbermaid totes and sort according to size. I also try to throw odd sized stuff in with the size it fits with. For example even if the onesie says 18 months, if it fit DD1 at 10 months, it went in the 12 month box.

My sons are pretty close in size so as DS1 outgrows his clothes they go immediately into DS2's closet or dresser. If we were not able to do this, as DS1 outgrew his clothes they would go in a storage bin (more then likely sizes would be similar in the bin) and then when it seemed like DS2 would be big enough to wear them we would get it out and go through it for the right season of clothes.

I sort by season. I find a lot of brands they wear different sizes in and I'd miss out on the whole life of some clothes if I did it by size. At the end of each season, everything is washed and if my littlest one can still wear it (or it's bigger than her) at the end of the season it is saved. Otherwise it is freecycled. At this point I am just beginning to entertain the notion of opening up the spring stuff. Oh, but pajamas have a separate bin.

We have fairly mild seasons here so I sort by size. For instance DS will need a lightweight fleece 9 months out of the year so most of his clothes will work year round with some layering.

I currently use those big rubbermaid tubs, but I am thinking about getting some space bags so I can store the clothes under our bed. Our garage shelves are full of those giant bins and it's starting to cramp our space out there.

By size in RubberMade containers. I just pull them out as we need them. DS2 is in 18-24 months now and DS1 in 4/4T. I have 2T in one bin and 3T in another. (I don't separate by season).

We sort by size and pull out when needed. We put in space bag and then in a big rubbemaid bin so we can fit about 3 space bags, or 2-3 sizes worth of clothing.

I organize by size. I find that to be way easier. They are almost 3 years apart, so I got lucky with the season thing. But I find it easier to just pull out the next size bin when he's ready to move up, and would be totally confused it if was organized by one thing or season.

I keep a basket in DS#1s closet. As clothes stop fitting, they go in there until we pretty much outgrow one whole size (with the exception of any odd-ball fitting ones that may stick around). Once we've shifted into a new size, all of the basket clothes go into a size-labeled tub into the attic. It's more about fit than size.

I have found that seasons only really affect the clothes at first... once DS was in 2T, 3T, he was wearing those for nearly a year, so we had clothes across all seasons in those sizes.

Since I have a winter baby (and another on the way), seasonality works well for us in the smaller sizes, too. So no advice there.
