Did anyone have luck without going commando? I tried putting my DD in underwear last weekend and she peed right thru them all morning. Then I gave up pretty easily (this is why my 3 year olds arent trained). I just cant get myself to do the naked thing. My house is cold. I dont want them peeing on the carpets. Should I keep going with the undies and hope it clicks? I just cant get this thing figured out!
Re: Potty training with underwear instead of naked?
I tried underwear training last weekend with no results. We had 6 accidents in a row and we had to go somewhere so we kinda gave up. At one point i did try nakey figuring that he wouldn't "just go" but he did and had 2 more pees on the couch. So neither worked. It was like he just didn't get that he needed to head to a potty when he was going to go. Not sure if the muscle control isn't developed but I'm getting frustrated.
So tomorrow we start again. I'll probably do underwear with the plastic pants over it to stop some of the accidents from soaking my couch and carpet.
Hang in there and keep trying. It has got to click, right? From what I've heard I just have to find what motivates him because a pirate hat with sticker ain't doing it!
Your attempt sounds just like mine! And the chocolate prizes arent doing it. Maybe I need to up the stakes. Good luck!
We did underwear the first day (we actually did that training padded underwear), then clothes the next day. We did a sticker chart and made a HUGE deal about it. There were spots for sitting on the potty, peeing and pooping on the potty. Once she filled up the chart she got to pick out any toy she wanted at Target. She was pretty stoked. She had about 3 accidents early the first day and that was it. Basically I just told her I don't want her to go potty in her new underwear. Not in a mean way, but she's at that age to eager to please so for some reason it clicked with her.
Good luck!
We are doing underwear and pj pants and it's working well for us, on occasion when he has to wear a diaper he'll keep that dry. I think that having those accidents where they soak themselves is very helpful, this is how they learn. Having something on makes it easier for me to know if he had an accident and i rather have the mess comtained if he soils himself since I can't be watching him every minute. Just go for it, they are learning even if they have accidents, i've seen a huge difference in a week with my son, he is 25 months.
