NIP and carriers

I am wondering if you all have any suggestions for NIP in general, particularly with a carrier.  I have a moby, a ring sling, and an ergo with the insert.  I LOVE the moby and the ergo.  The ring sling isn't really my fave right now, though, I can get LO in it without a problem.  The moby is awesome for going out if I am going to be sitting down some where (like church).  I put it on under my coat before we leave and stick DD in it when we get there.  Only trouble is, I'm not sure how nursing would work in it.  I've watched a youtube video before, but once she's in there I feel like it's too awkward.  I tried nursing in the ring sling today, but wasnt very successful, plus I feel like it's awkward to try to use in the winter since it doesn't go under a coat very well.  Do you tend to just take LO's out of the carrier to NIP?  I still have to help LO latch on, so when I do NIP I use a nursing cover because I am more comfortable that way....but it would be nice if I could find a good way to do it in the carrier.  Perhaps it will just take some practice and patience, but any tips would be great!

Re: NIP and carriers

  • I used a cover until LO was latching on most on his own. I LOVE my ring sling, I would loosen it and just hold him in my arms under the cover then tighten again when he was done. Now that he's latching easily I have nursed in my ringsling and in my Becco and even walked around. I like the ring sling best. I have lowered him down tummy to tummy and nurse him upright using the tail to cover us. Recently, my favorite thing is to move his legs to one side (he's usually tummy to tummy with legs out these days) and nurse him in cradle. In this postion the upper rail goes under his head to support it. HTH! For me it just took some time before we were both ready.

  • I wear my RS under my jacket all the time, but it's usually just a light jacket.  To nurse in it, I put the RS on and then hold her in my arms in the feeding position.  I then stick her feet in the sling and bring the fabric around her body.  I keep holding onto her while I tighten the fabric so that she is never shifted from her original position.  I usually keep my arm underneath her head so that it is properly supported and then cover her up with the tail.

This mon has a toddler, but I did this when I learned it when DS was 5 weeks.  This carry is a bit different than the standard "Moby carry", as the cumberbund goes on the inside. Having the baby in this pocket allows you to wiggle him higher or lower as needed.
