Benjamin Joseph is here!! PIP

Our precious little boy decided to show his face on Tuesday the 17th. I had been having BH contractions since about 35 weeks like crazy, and was worried I wasn't going to be able to tell the difference when real labor came around. The Tuesday before, I started losing my MP and was really nauseous so ended up deciding that it was time to stop working. Fast forward another week.

At 10:00pm on Tuesday, 40w6d, I woke up and thought that maybe my water had broken. It wasn't a huge gush, just a little bit, but I wasn't sure. So I went back to bed. At 11:00, I woke up to realize that yes, it had broken and it was time to call the midwife to see what to do. They suggested trying to go back to sleep and get some rest. I really tried, but after an hour or so, the contractions were almost already unbearable. By 1:00am, I called them back and decided to head to the birth center. Our doula, my mom, and my sister met us there about 2:00am.

We took the Bradley class, and I watched a lot of videos about natural childbirth, and from what we learned about how hard transition phase is, I really thought it was going to be a quick birth from the pain I was already in. I was wrong!! We got there and I was 4 cm dilated. I labored in the tub for a little while, and they decided I needed to walk around more to get things moving faster. Honestly, with everything we did to prepare, it was so much harder than I could have imagined. I was in hard labor for almost 17 hours before he was born. He came out at 2:44pm weighing 8lbs 12 oz and 20.5 inches long. As hard as it was, I cherish every moment and would go through it again in a heartbeat. Recovery was amazing. I felt so good almost instantly after he came out, only had 2 minor tears that didn't need stitching, and we were on our way home 4 hours later.

It's been a little bumpy since he got home getting adjusted. He's been nursing almost all night long, and every 1-2 hours during the day, so I haven't really been able to recover as far as sleeping goes much at all, but I know it'll get better once we get into a routine. He's the most precious thing I've ever seen and I understand now when people say that you never knew you could love someone so much until you have a child.  <3
