crib question

before Warner was born I remember reading that it was important to have the crib placed on an interior wall of the bedroom if possible. I *think* it had something to do with helping to prevent SIDS? I can't remember...

We had the crib like that until he was about 18 months old and then we rearranged and moved the crib to an outer wall. I really like the room arranged as it is now...it gives us a little more space as it's a small room to begin with. And I don't feel like moving everything which would require re-hanging pictures (yes, I'm that lazy. good thing it was another boy!!)

Is it really bad if I leave the crib on the outer wall? Am I psycho to even worry about this?

Also, after my panicky vent the other day, I decided to sent Warner to daycare today (I have a part-time arrangement with an in-home nearby and she had an opening today--wheee!) and I finally got all the baby clothes washed, folded and put in the dresser in the nursery. I also got all the baby blankets, crib sheets, swaddling blankets, burp cloths etc all freshly washed and ready to use. Plus I finished organizing the rest of Warner's old clothes which I hadn't done a very good job of storing away over the past year. So I'm much more ready for this baby to get here than I was on Monday :-)

Re: crib question

  • I never heard that interior wall thing, so I'd say you're fine. Or maybe I'm a bad mom. :P

  • Ditto what Wines said - i had never heard that either. I'd say roll with it but i am not an expert on crib placement except away from windows, heavy objects that could fall on it or dangling cords.

Congrats on being able to rock through your day today!

  • I haven't ever heard that. Now, I might choose an interior wall over an exterior wall because it will be warmer in the winter, but that is only because the kids' rooms are the coldest in the house.

  • I'm with prior posters, I've never heard that either. I think baby bh will be just fine.

This.  I just Googled and I see advice to put it on an interior wall just because exterior ones can get cold in winter.  I had all winter babies and 2 out of 3 slept in the crib on an exterior wall - we just had a heater in their room for extra warmth.

  • I've never heard this either. Both my LOs' cribs are against exterior walls.
  • BTW - having all that stuff washed and folded and ready must feel great.  You are really getting there!!
