Movie - The Other Woman - someone reassure me about bedsharing!

I started this movie thinking it would be a simple dramatic romance. It is sorrowful story about the death of a baby. And presents an alarmist view on bedsharing. We sleep safely: lots of space, blanket stops at waist, one pillow only for my head, no alcohol etc. This movie has turned me from pro-bedsharing to fearful! Gaaaaah! Reassure me, please, that my LO is not going to smother by nursing while we sleep!!!

  • If you had actually watched the movie, you would have noticed that a HUGE part of Natalie Portman's character finding peace was the fact that her baby died of SIDs and not from being smothered.

  • If your taking precautions your fine, and if your still worried invest in a cosleeper to go in your bed and keep LO even more safe and secure.

  • Your lol isn't going to smother! I can't even tell you how many times I've woken up to dd's face buried in my pillow!

fwiw when dd was really tiny i used to keep her in the hook of my arm, because i was a little scared at first about suffocation, that way if she moved i'd wake up instantly.

Now shes a toddler and sleeps just like me, face buried in a pillow lol!

  • I've never seen the movie, but I remember there were a couple times that DH almost rolled over on DS and I woke up to push him away.  I can't think of any reason why I'd wake up in the middle of the night except for my baby.

I know that it happens a lot where babies die in the middle of the night and the parents have no idea until morning, but it's been my personal experience that if my baby is possibly in danger, I wake up.  When I was in the hospital after DS was born, he slept in my arms and every time he moved or made a little sound I woke up.  I'm pretty sure that I conditioned myself to sleep lightly and to wake up at his movements, noises, or possible danger.

Anyway, DS is almost 15 months old now and we've been co-sleeping the whole time and he's fine.  Sometimes he even sleeps with his face buried.  Do what you need to do to make yourself comfortable with the idea again.  But I think everything will be fine.
