I had a planned section on January 6th because my LO was breech. Initially I was so scared and paranoid but to tell the future CSection mamas; I wouldn't change it to a VAG birth even if I had the choice now!!
To sum it up: the anestetics were virtually painless, it was quick, great atmosphere in the OR, DH was there the whole time and held the LO while I got stitched...My incision has been healing great and is smaller then I thought...It was hard to move around obviously for the first three days; but now I feel great...
So for those with scheduled Cs, dont stress it's honestly been a great experience and you hold your LO so quickly, it is so surreal ![]()
Re: My Section Experience
Thank you so much for this story!! My LO is breech also and doc said her chances of flipping are like 2% at this point. I have been freaking out about the recovery part and not being in shape to take care of her, but stories like yours really make me feel better.
Thanks again!
I second the OP's comment. My C/S was a breeze. I don't want any more children, but if I did, I'd do a C/S in a minute. I didn't take any narcotic pain relievers, either. Staying away from them and being sure to take stool softeners resulted in zero bowel problems.
For everyone who's freaked out, here's what the nurse practioner told me:
"A scheduled C/S had about the same positive outcome as an uncomplicated vaginal birth. Emergency C/S's are a different story because it's like running a marathon and then having abdominal surgery."
Most of the horror stories about C/Ss come from emergency C/Ss. The statistics are very bad as separating the scheduled ones from emergencies. When you can find data that separates the two, you'll see there's nothing to fear. There's a great website that breaks down all the research, but it's subscription-based and I canceled mine after DD was born more than a year ago. If I had it, i'd post the link.
My final advice-- do what the doctor says. Walk as soon as you can. Sleep when you can. Practice standing up by using your butt muscles instead of abs, take your pain meds on time (I took Advil every 4 hours for about 6 days), and you will be fine!
I have a c-section scheduled for Feb 14th and I have been so paranoid. Thank you for making me feel so much better!!
