After an exciting first week of Audrey's life, I finally have a moment to sit down and write her birth story.
Last Wednesday, I went to the hospital to have my cervix softened with cervadil. I was not effeced or dialted at all. I thought they were going to send me home after applyng the gel, but they decided to keep me overnight. Thank goodness I had my bag packed and in the car already.
At 6 AM on Thursday, they checked my cervix and I was 1 cm dialated. My OB started me on pitocin at 7 AM. An internal was done at 11 AM to find I was 2 cm dialted. I wasn't really feeling any contractions at this point so I wasn't surprised. Yeah for progress although very slow. My OB came in at noon to break my water and then the pain began. I began feeling the contractions that were now coming every minute for a minute each. I was in serious pain and with the knowledge that this was only pre-labor I requested an epidural.
Oh what a wonderful, sanity saving decision that was!!! It was put in quickly and the pain stopped. I could still feel my legs and the contractions. Thank god!! I continued to chill in my room for the next 4 hours, dialating very slowly. The day nurse estimated I would be done by 2 AM. Yippee...
At 7 PM, I was checked and the nurse told me I was 4 cm dialated. My DH left to grab some dinner and the pressure in my butt and around my ribs increased to the point where we called the anthesia guy to come top me off. It worked a little to ease the pain but the pressure increased. At 8 PM they checked me again and I was 7cm dialated! The contractions quickly increased from there but the epidural kept the pain managable. By 8:45 PM, I was pushing with all my might and she popped out at 9:13 PM. She was 6 lbs, 12 oz and 20.5 inches long. She is wonderful!
The past week has been very long. We're having some issues breast feeding but luckily my milk has come in like gang busters and so we're bottle feeding her breast milk to supplement. She likes to be awake at night and asleep during the day which is fun and to top off the fun time, my mother has been staying with us in order to "help" us. The jury is still out on whether that has been the case.
Thank you so much for all of the support during the last year and a half. I never could have imagined that people I met on the internet both here and on TTCAL would save me in my darkest days and help keep my hopes up that I would get my LO. I thank God everyday that I found this site and all of you. Thoughts and prayers to everyone that you get the LOs you so deserve.
