Breastfeeding

bottles just in case?

Im a ftm, plan on breastfeeding, but I know that things can change. Should I plan on buying bottles just in case? If so, how many?

  • We bought bottles so we could introduce ebm around 4 weeks.  Don't stock up on any one kind, not all babies like all bottles.  We started with a 3pk of Dr Browns.

  • I would- we didn't expect to introduce a bottle until she was about 6-8 weeks old, but were forced to give formula early on because of jaundice and weight issues. I'm glad I had them on hand so I didn't have to worry about it early on.

Ditto pp....just buy a 3pack. We've switched from Avent bottles to Dr. Browns bottles and we are now on ThinkBaby bottles. Not because my DD wouldn't take them, but because we were trying to slow her eating down and the Avent bottles and Dr. Browns bottles weren't working. You never know when you might encounter a problem with the bottles you bought, and need to switch. Save yourself the money and just a few at first!

  • We bought 3 packs of Gerber, Dr. Browns, and had the Medela bottles that came with my pump. They were very helpful because I could pump a bottle and not worry about having to nip when we would go out. It also meant H could take a night feeding when I just couldn't wake up anymore.
  • I bought 1 bottle and I used it 1 time. I was a sahm and the time she used the bottle was because I had pnemonia and had to go to the ER at 3 am... She was 4 months and took it fine while sleeping despite never have taken a bottle before.
