Early Signs of Autism
So DH and I are meeting with a woman who works with ECI and we've
been working on communication and developing his language skills. Today
we had our 4th meeting with her and he's progressed. He is signing
"more" now, also starting to open up to her more and play her games. ![]()
Butttttt.... She just had to bring up Autism and mental health and she seemed like she was a little worried about it. She said she didn't want to diagnose him with anything yet, just wants to work on correcting what we can but of course, I'm a parent and can't stop thinking or worrying about it.
I think one of her main concerns was his not making eye contact.
Re: Repost: Signs of Autism
My son is 4.5 and was diagnosed earlier this year. Be glad you have someone looking out for them. if he is Autistic, then you open up a whole new world of services and therapies available to him.
Does your child make eye contact and maintain it? Does he point for objects that he wants? Does he flap his arms or spin a lot? Does he do things obsessivly? Does he like to just line up toys instead of playing with them appropriately (imaginative play?) You can go to many many autism sites to read what to look for. It's a hard pill to swallow, but definitely not the end of the world. And it doesn't make your child anything less than special!
Hi again
the M-CHAT questionaire which is usually administered around 18 months is a tool that a lot of professionals consider for risk of ASD
here is a link to a link for it --

Thank you so much, I'm gonna stop looking things up for now. Haha.
