Clomid Brand vs. Generic?

Has anyone tried both and noticed any difference?  I wanted the brand name since this is my first time using it but pharmacy only had the generic on hand, so I took it anyway.

I never cared much about brand vs. generic but when I started thyroid meds again a few months ago the generic didn't perform the same as the brand I had used before, so I ended up switching over to the brand name with better results.

Re: Clomid Brand vs. Generic?

  • I just finished my first round of 50mg generic Clomid.  Before going on it, I asked my doctor about it and she assured me that it is still safe.

And, I had my mid-cycle monitoring appointment earlier today and I'm responding perfectly!

     Good luck to you!!

  • I haven't tried the brand name, but both my regular ob/gyn and the one at the fertility clinic gave me the generic.

  • Thanks, ladies!  My nurse said generic would be fine too, so here's hoping it's all good for my first go at it...
  • The drug itself is the same compound, so I don't see how there could be enough of a difference in manufacturing for anyone to notice a difference.

Some generic drugs are a substitution of a different similar drug if there is no generic available. Perhaps that was the difference in the thyroid meds? If not, a difference in drug form? Otherwise I'd throw the placebo effect as another possibility.

  • I haven't taken clomid but take femara and my RE specifically wrote the script for letrozole which is the generic. I'm sure generic clomid is fine
