DH and I are disagreeing on how much to give his 11 yo cousin. She will be coming over for about 3 hrs, part of which is us eating lunch (all together) - maybe 2.5 hrs. of watching DD while I'm doing other things at home.
The cousin seemed a little awkward at how much I gave her last weekend, almost like it was too much. (She loves it, would do it for free probably, but we want to give her something.)
Re: what would you pay a mother's helper
so really, only 2.5 hours of working plus a meal that you provide. I think $15-20 is the max I'd give, probably closer to $15.
how much did you give her and how much does your H want to give her?
this, especially for an 11-yro.
Good point about it being one of the first times she's been paid - I hadn't thought of that.
I gave her $20. I was originally thinking $15-20, but pulling out a $20 was easier than fishing around in my wallet for ones
DH thinks $20 is the minimum, and would be happy giving her $10/hr (and paying her for lunch).
Me too. Although I think sometimes WNW is in my head because many times her responses are what I was thinking.
$15, or $5/hour.
She's 11. That's plenty, IMO.
I agree. I have a 12 year old brother (great kid) and $15 is a lot of money for him to manage.
Hmm what to do...save for a video game or buy some snacks and a soda?
So, for 2.5 hours of work I would think $15 is fine and $20 is quite generous. I know mother's helpers that are teens and get $6/hr for two kids and are happy to do it since they like the responsibility of babysitting.
