Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I think DCP is lying

Seriously WTF? Supposedly T naps 2-3 hours at daycare and eats all vegetables and basically everything she is given.

For the last two weeks every time I put T down for a nap it is about 45 min. She is currently up there babbling away and I am ignoring hoping she will fall back asleep. I'm starting to think dcp is a lying liar that lies.

And yes, I'm bitter, I've worked 55 hours this week with DH out of town and really wanted a nap:(

Re: I think DCP is lying

  • Ryan napped for 22 minutes at home with me yesterday. 22 minutes the entire day.  I was SO freaking tired and wanted to nap.  But he always naps at least 1.5hours at day care. And eats all his food there, which he does not do at home. He also doesn't throw food on the floor there.

I'm beginning to think they are just better parents than I am! Wink

I had the same thought. T goes to an inhome and she learns so much and does all this adorable artwork. I'm only working PT but I feel like I am the slacker parent.

22 min is really rough, hope it gets better!

I'm confident that he will take a normal nap at day care today. He always does.

And I totally feel you on the slacker parent feeling. I work FT but DS goes to day care PT (I'm home with him 1 day, the grandparents watch him 1 day, then he's at day care 3 days). I feel like he is learning so much more and having so much more fun at day care. I feel like I should be sending him FT because he likes it so much.

  • When DH puts DD down for a nap she goes right down without any problems and sleeps for 2-3 hours. I'm lucky if I can get her down in 30 minutes and get her to sleep 90 minutes.

  • We have the same problem! I think it's because LO's naps are mostly at DC more than at home (he is full time) and he also probably is more active at DC - so yup, looks like they are the better parents
  • I thought the same thing too.  But finally yesterday, P took a 3.5 hours nap.  WTF?  I guess they aren't lying hors after all. Wink

  • I thank the sweet lord that Aiden goes to daycare because if he was forced to stay home with me all the time he'd never eat and never get his teeth brushed - two things he does amazingly well at daycare.

  • LO apparently eats almost everything he is given at daycare, but at home it is a completely different story.  I am not sure what magic they have but I am glad they have it because otherwise my LO would be living off cheerios, milk, yogurt and fruit/veggie pouches.
  • We have sort of the opposite issue with naps and the DC.  There he will have a 1.5-2 hour nap after lunch.  On weekends he wants a nap around 10am and another around 1pm.  I think the kids and activity at DC keeps him going, then he catches up on his sleep on the weekends.

  • DS is the same way with our nanny.  DH said it's true (he works from home so he's around them all day).  The days I have with DS, he doesn't nap for more than an hour (goes 2-3 for nanny) and he throws most of his food to the dogs (eats well for nanny).  He also like to hit me and nobody else...awesome.

    I think he's testing me.

  • This thread is so funny.

My dad had sworn to me that LO won't eat the egg whites, I said "of course he does" and fed him some, LO then proceeded to grab the whole remaining of the egg and stuffed it into his mouth. My dad seem slightly embarrased, but that's just what kids do.

  • I'm a toddler teacher at a DCP, and believe me, the kids sleep. All my kids are down by 1130 and most are still sleeping at 230. The parents always ask how we do it, and I just think its the constant stimulation that makes them so tired. I can get 8 toddlers to sleep in 15 minutes, but my LO who stays home with daddy ( he works the night shift) will take over 30 min to get to sleep most days.

  • I might think they were all lying liars too, if I hadn't been on both sides of the fence.  I was a licensed in-home provider for 3 years before having LO.  I experienced the same things you are talking about.  Kids were ANGELS for me- eating their veggies, never throwing anything, taking wonderful naps, never hitting.  And the moms would tell me stories of these raging demons at home.  I couldn't even picture those kids acting that way, and I'm sure the moms couldn't imagine them acting as perfectly as I was describing.   Now I go to school full-time, and my hitting, yelling, food-throwing buddy goes to daycare.  And his provider tells me he is an absolute joy and her favorite baby of all time.  He's never naughty there.  I definitely think it's all the stimulation, as well as the peer pressure.  The kids want to do what their friends are doing, so if friends like veggies, so will they!

  • MIL will say that LO does things with her that he will never do for me!  I understand your frustration!

  • it may be a consistancy thing.   daycare has schedules and they are there 5 (sometimes less) day a week, then the weekend at home is different! my son never naps well at my moms house but thats because he goes there only 1 day a week!
