We recently moved waaaaay SW from NW Austin. I delivered DD at NAMC and my doc is located across the street. I'm not in love with her but I also don't dislike her. I had a really good experience at NAMC, and for that reason, I'm considering staying with my current doc for our next baby. However, it's 30 miles from our new house. Am I crazy to stay just for a hospital? I'm sure there are wonderful hospitals down south but I really like the idea of already being familiar with the layout, processes, etc. I work downtown and would schedule my doctor's appointments during working hours so I'd already be halfway to my doc when driving to appointments.
So, WWYD? If you have any south OBGYN/hospital recs, please share as well. Thanks!
Re: Would you switch docs/hospitals?
I agree with MMT.
We moved 35 miles north and even though I loooved my OB, I ended up switching because I just couldn't justify that long of a drive round trip. If you're not crazy about her, I'd def switch. FWIW, I've had 2 friends deliver at Seton SW and both absolutely raved about it.
I have several friends who kept Drs. in north north north Austin and lived south, but I can't even imagine having to deal with rush hour in labor... I think in all three of their cases they had scheduled inductions or c-sections.
I highly, highly recommend Dr. Land wer meyer at Hill.Country.OBG YN - She delivers out of Se.ton SW. I had a wonderful experience with both her and the hospital. My friend out in Dripping Springs is actually the one that referred me to her as Se.ton SW at the time was the closest hospital to her home.
Exactly. I stayed with Dr. S after he moved from central to N (between DS & DD). I loved him enough that I didn't care how far/long I had to drive. But for the hospital alone? Nah. I delivered DS at Seton Central and while it wasn't as fancy as NAMC, it didn't really make that much difference in the end.

I LOOOVE my doctor and will follow him wherever he goes
I will follow him....
I delivered DS at Seton Central and had a great experience, but I've heard awesome things about NAMC, so we'll see. I absolutely LOVED my L&D nurse at Seton. I could have married her.
Eh, I drove to AABC up north (the only one at the time) in labor, from way down south. The drive sucked, but it wouldn't have mattered where I was going, the drive would have sucked anyway. Seatbelts are torture devices for the laboring woman and every little bump on the road...
My doc has a south office and a north office, but has stopped delivering south. So, my appts. will all be south, but if I stay with her, I have to go to NAMC too. It doesn't bother me that much. I really wanted to deliver at SSW, but I had a couple bad experiences with H C OBGYN. Enough that delivering at the awesome hospital close to me, isn't worth it. My doc originally delivered there as the only other OB not in that practice, but has since switched. I've heard that NAMC is pretty awesome now, too.
I'm not in LOVE with my doc either, but I just don't get that way about medical professionals. Truth is, after "ob shopping" previously and the stress that stemmed from that, I'm just too lazy to find someone that delivers closer. Plus, my doc's philosophies are really in line with my "crunchy but high risk" self/body.
Me too. In fact this is what I did. We live in Pville and I see Dr. S chn eider at H ill C ountry OBGYN. I absolutely adore her, so it's worth the drive to me. I also really, really liked delivering at SSW. As for docs in that practice I've seen Dr S and the new doc there, Dr W alker. I don't have the experience with Dr W that I do with Dr S (I've been with her for 8 yrs), but the handful of times I've seen her I've liked her.
