1st Trimester

When did/do you start showing? 1st pregnancy

Hello! I'm new here and seven weeks pregnant. I'm also a Pilates instructor and I wear tight clothes and people stare at my body all day. Fun when you're trying to "hide" a pregnancy for a time.

Other than looking more shapely I just feel like I look bloated I guess, but one of my clients ASKED! She could tell I put on weight (which I haven't, but I look a little different) and knew I was hoping to get pregnant. I just didn't think it was supposed to be showing really at all until closer to the 2nd trimester, especially for in-shape first timers.

I know all bodies are different but I'm just curious... When did you feel like your stomach looked different? And when do you think you could tell a change when you were wearing clothes?

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for it to be obvious... I just didn't think you were even supposed to show at all yet, or any time soon.

  • My bloat was an official bump by 14 weeks.

  • I started wearing maternity pants to work around 18 weeks, basically because all of my work pants are low rise and snug and the bump wasn't working with those.  No one in the office even knew I was pregnant though until I announced at 21 weeks, and I'm 5'2" and slenderish.  I did wear looser tops and fly-a-way cardigans that helped to conceal stuff from a side view :)
  • I could tell I had a bump by 16 weeks. It was not noticeable to others until 24 weeks if they were really looking for it, and not until 28-30 weeks to anyone who didn't know I was pregnant.

  • With my first, I had an obvious bump around 12 weeks.

With this pregnancy it's been obvious for a week or so (I'm a bit over 10 weeks). I've already had a few people ask me if I am pregnant.

  • I didn't get a real bump until almost 24 weeks with #1 (I also work out a bit).  It's extremely rare to show in your first tri especially with your first.

In your situation, I would consider slightly bigger workout clothes or even a t-shirt because you will need to hide a few extra pounds and maybe a bloat belly before you really show.

  • Yeah, I mean my husband says he can't tell any difference. I can't really either, I do just look like I put on a couple lbs in areas where I usually have little shape. I suppose it just looks less flat, and a little more puffy... and shockingly, that's noticeable I suppose to some (or one, rather). But still, it surprised me.

I suppose in a few weeks I am going to have to ditch the tight clothes and go for a flowy-er top until it actually looks like a bump and I can tell all!

  • I have a long torso and wasn't obviously pregnant until I hit the half way point. I could easily hide it until I hit 30 weeks. (I didn't want to, but it would have been easy.) I had a friend however, who is short with a short torso and by 10 weeks she couldn't hide it. She looked full term by week 16.
  • My DH & BFF say I'm showing but it is mostly bloat at this point. Knowing my own body, I do think I have a tiny bump. Even 1st thing in the morning, when there should be no bloat & I'm not constipated, there's a bump. By the end of the day, however.... whew I look super pregnant. This is my 1st and I'm 5'5 and 117lbs., petite frame.

Ditto, but I measured about 4 weeks behind (bump wise) for most of my pregnancy.

  • With my first, I think it was around 15-17 weeks. But I have a nice deep curve in my back, so I have a little "pooch" anyways.

  • I have a long torso, so I showed really late.  I noticed clothing stopped fitting right around 20 weeks and I think people could finally tell around 27-28 weeks.

  • I was around 17/18 weeks when I could tell. It became noticeable for everyone else around 22/23 weeks when I 'popped."

  • I'm a FTM and my blump, still hasn't really turned into a bump yet. My baby is really small and I have really low amniotic fluid, so I'm guessing that is why.

  • I got my first "stranger" comment at 17 weeks.

By 20 I was definitely, without a doubt popped and very obviously pregnant.

  • I work in an office so I don't wear a lot of tight fitting clothes. I didn't start wearing maternity clothes the first time around until around 7 months.  In tight fitting clothes, you could tell I had a little bump around 15 weeks.

  • I'm not truly showing, but my body shape is changing. I used to have a flat stomach, now I have a little pooch (I'm guessing bloat) even though I haven't gained any weight. You can't tell through my clothes, and even in a bikini you wouldn't be able to tell if you didn't know me; but DH & I can tell when I lift my shirt up and look from the side.

  • It sounds like you are bloated like the rest of us and some people just say what they think.  The tight clothing doesn't help but I know most workout clothes fit snug.  Good luck hiding it........I feel so uncomfrtable and I can't wait till this bloat belly goes away (if ever!!) :)
  • I think around 16-17 weeks. I did have a complete stranger congratulate me around 8 weeks, though. Crazy.

  • With DD, I started wearing maternity pants at 8 weeks!! Crazy,...I know, but my pants were not fitting me at all. I would say by 14 weeks, everyone could tell I was pregnant. I had a slim body, so I feel like it was more obvious.

  • I'm 12 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. I haven't gained any weight yet but my middle is definitely bigger. I only have two pairs of jeans (out of ~5) that can be buttoned and worn comfortably. The others may or may not button but if they do it's uncomfortable. I guess this is a combination of bloat and my insides moving out of the way of the uterus. Apparently it's grapefruit sized now. Eek.

  • My bloat has mostly gone down, and people who know I'm pregnant have started to notice a bump just this week. I have a short torso, and I'm in that awkward stage where people who know notice, but I really just look chubby.

  • With DD #1 you could def tell by like 22 weeks.  With this pregnancy you can't tell yet, I think my stomach just looks bloated.  Im 12 weeks btw.

  • I am 9 weeks today and I am just feeling bloated (my 1st pg). It's weird because I weigh myself once per week to keep an eye on things and every time I go to get on the scale I think "oh, I bet I gained 5 lbs this week, I feel so heavy" but I weigh the same or even have went down an lb. It's weird how pregnancy makes our bodies feel so bloated and heavy. I am excited to have an actual bump though and not just feel puffy and bloated all the time.
  • I'm a little over 13 weeks and although I've been bloated and wearing looser clothes and leggings instead of jeans since week 10, this is the first week I think it's been visible to anyone else. My in-laws said they agreed there was a tiny change yesterday although it would still be invisible to a casual observer. Things are definitely changing and I'm hoping to have a small bump to show my husband when he returns from a month of travelling on the 3rd (I'll be 15 weeks and I have not seen him since week 11).
  • I'm only 10 weeks and am starting to show.  I haven't gained any weight but my pants are def. tight around my mid section (doing the rubber band trick for now trying to put off maternity clothes).  I get self conscious when people comment and ask how far along I am b/c I just don't think I should be showing yet.
  • I am 10 weeks and have been feeling so bloated for about 3 weeks now.  I can button all of my pants but it sort of hurts with the pressure against my belly, so I prefer to wear big bulky pants.  I look a little funny, but I prefer to feel comfortable.  I am going to buy some maternity pants this week.  I am shocked at how quickly I need to buy new clothes.
