I know some of you have these, could you answer a few questions?
What counts against the deductible? Do copays count? If there is a $200 copay for ER visits, does that mean the rest of a visit would be covered? I'm just trying to figure out what counts against the deductible and if we would go with a higher or lower deductible. Thanks!
Re: Health insurance deductibles?
We just switched to high deductible plan, because my company has a Health Savings Reimbursement account, and they gave me $1000 to put in it. Plus I set aside pre-tax $ each paycheck. At the end of the year there will have been $4000 total in it, and our deductible is $3000 (for in-network, $6000 for out!) We each have a debit card that we can use for medical, dental and vision expenses. My hope is that we won't actually have to pay anything besides what we are putting aside each week.
So, for ours everything counts towards our deductible... copays, office visits and prescriptions (which are not covered on our plan... only "preventative" medicine is covered 100%, everything else is at cost out-of-pocket) After we meet our deductible for the year everything in network is cover 90%
We have blue cross and it is the non-covered things that go toward the deductible. The copays we don't count. So for instance, our chiropractor visits are only covered 80% after we meet the $500 per person or $1000 per family deductible. Our regular dr and pediatrician appt copays don't count. My ultrasound and hospital copays don't count toward the deductible either.
