I only scanned the article, but it sounds odd. Without having full knowledge of the situation I say it's something else.

Is there anything new on it or is it the same info from last week or so?

Not sure if there is anything new...but it has been all over the today show and CNN this week. Maybe the doctors officially said it was mental and not physical. They basically said that because they can't find anything environmental or whatever that it MUST be psycho-semantic (sp???)

So I read some comments on an article and could see a possible link with the HPV vaccine. Hmmmmm if everything else has been ruled out but they won't share medical info. Yet they share that they all tested neg for drugs.

Yeah that was a theory but not all the girls have had it ...so it has been ruled out. So says Anderson cooper

Not sure what to think. On our local news last night, there was a girl from this area who happened to have stopped to eat in LeRoy on the way to a sports tournament, and developed similar symptoms shortly after that. Supposedly it was around the same time these other girls started having tics. Doctors can't find any reason for her symptoms, either. This girl was at the top of her class, a star athlete, and now she can't function without the constant tics. Whole thing just doesn't add up.

I think they all did something they shouldn't have, whether it be a drug or what. Kids do CRAZY things now. My 16 y/o nephew went to party and the kids there were crushing up all kinds of OTC pills and snorting them, putting gasoline in their nose for a buzz (yeah ouch) and smoking all kinds of household chemicals. Unreal. I thought pot was bad in my day. IDK. But I don't know any of these girls personally so I am really just guessing. But seems funny they all hang out in the same crowd, they all came down with symptoms within a few days of each other and they were all from the same age group.

Interesting, and very plausible theory. A kid was caught here the other day snorting a prescription anti-anxiety med. Genius, I know. Don't know why the girl near me would be dealing with it too, unless she did more than just stop there for lunch.

it's so weird... I think it's gotta be something. It's way too big of a coincidence that they all have it.... and it's only at that school. If it was caused by stress why wouldn't other kids across the country have it?!

Yeah i wondered about a drug type thing too..but figured it would have come out in all the testing and therapist evals. Wendy that is really interesting ... I would hope that they tracked all of their eating/drinking/any activities for the weeks leading up to symptoms but who knows.

Ah, I couldn't find that info. I just saw that HIPPA laws prevented them from releasing med info.

I do agree that they likely did something to cause this. It is probable that it may never be released.

What has become of the Spencerport teen that committed suicide? Better yet the girls who bullied her?

Has the Lisa Irwin case gone cold? Did they just give up?

Dh is convinced it is the gardasil vaccine. But he is pretty anti-vaccines in general...

It's not like LeRoy girls were given a special gardasil vaccine , wouldn't other kids show with those symptoms too?

I think it is some type of drug that wouldn't show up on the normal drug test. When I worked poison control line, some weird things were ingested - acne cream, kids passing out bcp. It could even be Internet drugs that one of the girls ordered and shared since they are the same group - like "diet" pills.

This is actually the first I have heard about it. I read a couple quick articles just now. My guess is that it is some thing that results from combeining sources. Like how one cold pill is safe and one alcoholic drink is safe, but when you mix the two the effect is 10 fold or whatever. It may be a combination of 5 or even 10 or 20 different substances that are safe on their own but when exposed in the right combination has this effect. Like say, they all wear a certain type of makeup that is safe, but then they also drink some sort of herbal tea, and maybe mixed with some cleaner fumes they inhales at school... Who knows. And it would be difficult to pinpoint all the different individual substances needed for the reaction.

I find it interesting that Drs are saying they know what it is and that it happens. But parents are saying that is BS. People want ONE clear answer and cause so when told it could be from so many different things conbiened it is difficult for parents to accept because they don't know how to prevent it from happening again.

Well that's the thing..and probably why the story came back again this week. The cases are closed from a drs standpoint. They used elimination diagnoses and because they could find anything they concluded it must be mental. And the parents and kids arent buying that. But there's just so much more I want to know!!

from my understanding:

its not the garadsil thing since it has been proven not all of the girls received it

all testing in the school and on school grounds showed nothing

there are more girls then what is being reported since some have already graduated

the 12 that are currently in school don't all hang out with each other...the only common thing was they are girls who happened to go to the same school...i'm not sure if they all live in leroy...

my boss's wife works at the school, my coworkers cousin is one of the girls......

The whole thing is fishy-I have a feeling they did something (drugs, etc) to cause it. Like others said-if it was a vaccine or environment, why arent others being affected? If it was environment you would think some boys would be involved but they arent. And with Gardasil you'd find the same things happening elsewhere in the country too.

My SIL's coworker is the Mom of one of the girls and I guess the girl has been out of school since it happened-she has the symptoms so bad that she can't attend school. I tried to dig for more info but my SIL hasnt spoken to the mom in about a month (they work in the same lab, but different area)
