Success after IF

Finally confirmed (2 years later!) the cause of our MFI

We finally found out for certain than our MFI issues were because of DH having a varicocele. I'd suspected that. DH had to go see the urologist as part of follow-up for his abdominal surgery, since he was having some minor complications from the temporary stents they placed during it. They did an ultrasound and noted the varicocele.

We never did see a urologist while TTC because after discussing it with our RE we decided at our age (36 then) it was a waste of time to go get it checked, potentially have surgery and then wait to see if there was any improvement.

Definitely nice to know that for sure was a factor!

Re: Finally confirmed (2 years later!) the cause of our MFI

  • My DH had a double varicocele & opted for the non surgical embolszation (still painful) of just one of them.Top reproductive urologist in the country at johns Hopkins said our chances of conception without IVF were still less than 5%....hello, Lydia! It might be worth looking into further. Especially if it causes him discomfort.

Can I ask you ladies what type of MFI you had?  We have 0% motility and lowish count and I've always wondered if that could be a factor.

Diagnosis was severe mfi. Counts less than a million, poor motility & morphology. I can't remember the exact % though. Straight to IVF w/ICSI

  • We had MFI across the board -- lowish count, low motility, super low morph (1%).

The count was generally just below normal levels, motility was 1.8% one SA, and 28% the second (I had DH on vitamins) but morph never really changed.

We went straight to IVF w/ICSI.
