I was just sitting on our hotel bed, minding my own business, naked after a shower, when this clear liquid dripped onto my belly. I thought it was water from my hair, but when I wiped it off I realized it was all slimy. Look up at the ceiling, nope, no leak. Look back down at my belly....and see my booby above it...which has a giant drop of clear, slimy fluid threatening to fall again!
My boobs are leaking!
Or, well, the right one is. Was, by now.
I had no idea colostrum was so slimy feeling! I assumed it would be more like milk. Very weird!
(Is that normal?)
Re: Colostrum has a weird texture!
Mines a little slimy. It's not quite the colostrum your baby will know and love those first few days though.
It's definitely weird seeing liquid on your nipple though! I put cocoa butter on my breasts and I end up squeezing some out. Always amusing...
Completely normal. Although, it's not colostrom just yet. It's your body making the colostrum, and getting your body ready for those first feedings but it's just no full of fat and nutrients (completely).
Also, to the other questions. It's normal to leak and not to leak at this point. Some woman don't ever leak, some leak early. With DS I started leaking around 18 weeks. This time, unless my nipple is squeezed (yes I was curious because I leaked so early with my son, I was wondering why it hadn't happened yet), I don't leak.
The texture is almost like a silky/slimy feeling and thicker than water. Sometimes it's clear other times it has a whitish tinge to it. All is normal. The only thing that's not normal is if it's bloody (which would happen with mastitis during breastfeeding, or if your nipples are really cracked).
So if your leaking that's awesome, if your not...that's awesome too
Either way and either teture is all normal!

Thats not colostrum....its a thick white milky..your boobs are just leaking and getting ready for your baby. The colostrum comes after your baby is born
Yea I have boob leakage as well. My DH massages my boobs at night for 15 minutes so it can get leakage out and such because I hate when it randomly leaks on my arms and such when I lay down.
I am also a FTM but I learned the leakage is quite normal. It shocked me at first I was like why is there liquid leaking from my boob, but now I know what it is I just try to get as much leakage out as possible.
I think you may actually encourage them to leak more haha the whole supply and demand thing.
Just by the way, I was curious about the same thing (not for myself, just general knowledge) and it does change back to colostrum once you give birth
