Julia has a slight umbilical hernia and nobody except me seems to be concerned. The pedi said they almost always correct themselves within the first year and only a small percentage need surgery. The shriveled up part hasn't fallen off yet, so I'm not sure how it's going to look.
Has anybody had experience with this? What was the outcome? JnK - I remember you saying something about having that surgery done when you were 4, right?
Re: Talk to me about umbilical hernias.
Yup
mine didn't correct itself, so I had surgery before going to kindergarten. In fact, I joke that it is the reason my belly button never popped during pregnancy - bc it is reinforced!
It is rare though, most correct themselves. In fact, our Pedi today said that she thinks Clayton has one. I'm not concerned though - most likely it will go away within his first year.
Oh, and from pictures, mine just basically looked like an outie belly button. I think my mom said it would get bigger when I cried or were full, but it didn't look gross or anything.
My DD had a very slight one when she was a newborn. The pedi said it would likely correct itself and I don't remember ever really thinking about it .. and it did correct itself.
My aunt said her Dr just told her that hers is slightly herniated. I see that the center of mine isn't quite flat any more, it doesn't stick out but it isn't as 'in' as it was before I had kids.
