Goofy BBT situation this a.m.! Can anyone relate?

I'm on my 2nd month of charting BBT. last month my temps were erratic and i have no idea of I O'd or not (didn't really pay attention to other signs as i was thinking BBT charting would help right away...but not so much! i'm learning!)

Anywho, just started charting again for this month and I've been taking my temp orally and taking it at least twice to double check it since it was so erratic last month. This a.m., i placed the thermometer under one side of my tongue and it read 96.8. Then, for some reason, i swtiched and put it under the other side of my tongue. I got a 97.5!! i retempt both sides again, same result! Did i have my mouth open while i was sleeping or something? how can it be that different and how the heck am i supposed to chart successfully with something like that. AGH! Just frustrated.

I logged the 96.8 since yesterday my temp was 96.65...thought it seemed more reasonable? I also started OPKs this month and will be logging CM and CP, so hopefully i'll get to the bottom of this ovulation situation. At least my cycles have been consistent at 34 days the last several months!

Wish me luck! and anyone else have goofy BBT moments like this??

Not sure how your thermometer works but mine said specifically in the instructions that if you need to temp again, you need to wait at least 5 minutes for it to reset.

Nope, can't say that I do. Just FYI, you are supposed to be consistent with the way you temp. You are supposed to always track the first temp you get and NOT temp repeatedly after. The temps after the first are to be discarded because they will be inaccurate.

I'm actually borrowing my sister's thermometer, so I didn't read/have the instructions. Guess that makes a big dif. Thanks for the note.

I have taken my temperature under each side of my tongue (during the day, not for charting) and it read a good bit differently under each side...like .5 moreso (which would be big for charting).

I don't know if this helps but I bought my thermometer from Target and with it came a chart of spots in the mouth, and depending on where you place the thermometer in your mouth it can give different temperature readings, which is why they say to place it on the same side every time.
