Someone that can recover files from a corrupted hard drive and won't rip me off anyone have a good recommendation???? I'd be indebted to you forever!!!
I actually called them earlier. And yeah it's $100 -they'll refund the money if they can't help too...which is nice. They then recommend someone that starts at $250. Something tells me I'm gonna learn my lesson the hard way with this one
Yup, spend the money and get the files. Then get yourself a nice little external drive. Not too expensive for one that has plenty of storage. I back up at least once a month, priority to pics and music!
There is a place across from the Park that might be able to help. My parents have taken their computer there and were pleased. The guy was really honest with them about the cost to fix vs. buying new.

No advice on who to do it, but a random bit of advice.
Don't attempt to turn the computer on. Every time you try it could be damaging your hard drive more and lessens the chance they can recover anything. It's only a matter of time between corrupt and completely dead.
Now that you are officially a "student" again, I'm pretty sure the IT help desk at NU will do that for you. I'm sure if there are any costs involved its probably minimal.
