  Yes slight bleeding is normal after any internal exam, I am surprised they didn't tell you this. As long as you arent bleeding like a period its fine, as your cervix starts to ripened and get ready for labor it can become very easily irritated and can cause spotting. Some women even spot after a transvaginal ultrasound. My perinatologist told me that slight spotting after any type of internal vaginal exam is completely normal.

  How do you know if it's too much blood? I was wondering about this too. They told me that some bleeding is normal, but I feel like it might be too much.

  After my internal exam (they checked my cervix) the nurse gave me a pad to wear and told me to expect some spotting. After I left the dr's office i stopped at a bathroom on the way out of the hospital and noticed that my spotting was kinda what i considered to be alot, and kinda came out in clots. It freaked me out so I went back and asked a nurse but she said that was normal, just as long as it stopped soon (which it did). ...and all is well.

  Totally normal.  If it doesn't stop though or is at all heavy, call your doctor.

  I bled a lot after my second internal exam. It was like the heavier days of my period, and I was passing quarter sized clots with lots of cramping. It didn't stop, so 4 hours later I called the doc and he said that's NOT normal. He said it shouldn't be "running" out and bright red like mine. He told me to go home and lay down to take the baby weight off my cervix. When I did, it stopped within an hour and then I just spotted brown for a day. If it's as much as mine was, call the doc!
